Republicans Shut Down the Federal Government Again & Suffer Humiliating Defeat

His poll numbers are tanking in a way we haven't seen for a long time, since the start of his presidency. He's down to just 34% approval in the latest AP poll, 36% in the latest CBS poll, and 40% in the latest Politico poll - all near-record lows for him in those polls. According to the AP poll, his disapproval rating from college graduates is up to 76% (from 65% in the previous poll), and up to 71% among women and independents (from 58% previously). He may not care, but you can bet his fellow Republicans - especially those Senators and House members facing tough races in 2020 - are sweating bigly. Whether they'll actually do anything is, as always, the big question.

Fox News has an article on their latest poll regarding Trump's performance in office, and an analysis of his ratings in their poll over the past couple of years. His approval rating has dipped from just 6 points underwater in the previous Fox poll (52% disapprove, 46% approve) to 11 points (54% disapprove, 43% approve). His approval rating among Republicans has dipped five points since the previous poll, including a ten-point drop among GOP women (93 to 83 percent), ten points among suburban men (53 to 43 percent), and seven points among Evangelicals (78 to 71 percent). A plurality believes that the Trump campaign coordinated with Russia in the 2016 campaign (46 to 39 percent), approve of Mueller's performance by 15%, and disapprove of Trump's handling of the investigation by 16%. Even in the Fox poll, people disapprove of Trump's handling of foreign policy by 53 to 38 percent, immigration (54 to 42 percent), and border security (53 to 43 percent).

Not surprisingly, Fox chose to start the article with Trump's strongest numbers in the poll, which were on the economy. Even there, he received only a 49 to 46 percent approval rating, and his numbers there are sliding across the board. Not good news for Trump when even the Fox poll has such numbers.

You can say this about a lot of government workers but I’ll say it here. If we don’t pay them, someone will. Too many people are becoming too vulnerable and are open to doing the wrong thing to provide for their families.

If you've ever had a conversation with an active or former Secret Service agent, you've heard about one of the most awful jobs in the world. Pays pretty good, but you have no life and get jerked around. I know a guy who got uprooted from Chicago on 48 hours notice so he could go follow one of W's daughters around bars in disguise in South Africa for six months.

Business decision. Senator of a state with a dying conservative base and influx of new liberals by the month. Also likely intends to run for President in 2024 as the GOP palate cleanser to Trump.
