You don't like Serbian fans?

That guy was arrested, spent 2.5 years in jail ... was recently released, and SHOCKINGLY ... was on the pitch the other night against Albania stirring things up.

Specifically how? He was doing his job. There's about a 0% chance the owners didn't send him out there with the directive to fire back after Jurgen was openly telling players not to sign with their league, how they need relegation (putting their investments at risk), and even outwardly suggesting that MLS wasn't the best league in the country. Was MLS just supposed to sit back and let Klinsmann take public shits all over it whenever he desired?
Dude, he "demanded" that our national team coach bow down to him. That whole presser was an embarrassment.

Ivan the Terrible
Ivan Drago
Ivan Bogdanov

I'm just going to assume naming your male child Ivan in Eastern Europe isn't the best choice.

So you think it's ok for Klinsmann to take massive public dumps all over MLS? Remember, he's not just the coach, he's also the Technical Director for the Federation...

He didn't take a massive dump on MLS. He stated what is very clear; there are better leagues in the world and it's best for a player's development to play in the highest competition possible. What of that is even debatable?

Liviu Bird wrote an article that I agree with 100%. http://www.si.com/soccer/planet-fut...nsmann-don-garber-mls-usmnt-comments-conflict

It wasn't just that one comment though, its a constant thing. Basically telling players (i.e. Jozy, Mix) through the media not to come to MLS is obviously not going to sit well with MLS execs. No one is arguing that MLS is equal to the top European leagues. There's a difference between advising players in private that they'd be better off at Euro club X and shouting it out for the world to hear. That's the piece that is pissing people off, especially since part of his supposed mandate is to grow the game in the US, which in large part means MLS.

I guess I just see him as being honest and giving his opinion of what is best for players in general. His job is to develop American players, not MLS. He's saying the best way of doing that is by having Americans competing at the highest level available to them. And for our top talent, that's not MLS. That's advice not only for Mix and Altidore, but for kids who might be considering playing college soccer rather than joining a professional team. His thoughts re: relegation mirror that. MLS as a league will improve by constantly improving competition. More teams fighting to play in the top league creates that competition, which in turn raises the bar, rather than being secure in knowing a few shitty seasons don't really matter at the end of the day.

As MLS continues to invest in their academies, coaching and training facilities, that need to leave for higher competition will gradually decline. Klinsmann's other responsibility is making sure that our youth development gets us to that point. But Klinsmann would be doing a disservice to American soccer if he claimed settling at a level is good for an individuals growth.

It's true, but it just didn't need to be said. There was zero benefit in saying it in public for anyone.

If the pussies in the MLS don't like it; then they should do something to change the rightful perception of the league.

"oh no, he is pointing out our faults in public instead of licking our assholes!" Pathetic.

That's one way to look at it. Again it didn't benefit anyone in any way.

Could benefit the people of MLS if they took the criticism on board and made changes to improve the quality of the league. Like...getting rid of that stupid salary cap so that they have an excuse for not spending top dollars to bring in top talent. The better the foreign talent in clubs...the better the American talent at those clubs get by training with and playing against them every week.

Two "top" players per club doesn't accomplish that. It's a damn cop-out.

Bummer about Corona breaking his foot. Big year coming up next year with lots of opportunities to play. Hate to see Gyau and him fall behind with injuries.

Right now there is a disturbing lack of playing time for Yanks in Europe.

England is roughly the size of North Carolina. They have 34 teams in the top two football leagues. MLS has 19 teams total in the US and Canada. Where the hell does Klinnsman think these teams are going to be relegated to?

What would be considered the equivalent of the Championship here in the States? The USL?
