Asked about the email, Döpfner initially responded with a forceful denial. “That’s intrinsically false,” he said. “That doesn’t exist. It has never been sent and has never been even imagined.”
When shown a printout of the text, Döpfner allowed a glimmer of recognition. It’s possible, he said, that he may have sent the email “as an ironic, provocative statement in the circle of people that hate Donald Trump,” because that’s exactly the kind of ironic, provocative thing that Döpfner, a garrulous and enthusiastic texter, likes to do.
“That is me,” he said. “That could be.”
John Malone nods in agreement.
Apologies for the source, this clip seems to be spreading with joy among the right wing crowd. (Which means they thing this was a .... good argument?)
But hey, I'm pretty sure the commentator's argument would also mean that confederate states owe reparations to families of union soldiers, so there's that.
I'm legitimately confused. Are you saying that - in the event that reparations are paid - you disagree that everyone who profited off of slavery should contribute? Because that seems reasonable to me.It's a common argument they use. We've seen it on the boards before. Somehow they think buying slaves and then selling them or equating the African system of slavery with chattel slavery is a winning argument.
Thanks, that certainly makes sense. It also seems fair to acknowledge how widespread the sin was.I’m saying it’s a whataboutism to equate two very different forms of slavery as an attempt to absolve white history of centuries of sin.
Brutal
this is all to make shareholders happy but seems like shareholders would want a news organization to report the news. but what do I know, I'm not a shareholder.Further reduction of local news coverage, what could go wrong?

well people are probably reading less because there's not much left to read.If you report the news and nobody reads or watches your reporting, is it really news ?
