Saudi World Golf Tour 2022/2023 Thread

Dang those are some reallyyyy low scores. TPC Boston is not a particularly hard (or noteworthy) course though.

As opposed to the women's Open at Troon this a.m. where the wind is really blowing and 1 golfer was under par in the 2nd round when I left for work. Love links golf, and Troon is cool.

You would think they would play the first round of the playoffs on a tougher track, but the Tour loves its TPC courses.

No question that DJ and Scheffler are crushing that course, but overall the track isn't playing that easy. The projected cut is -2, and about 50 of the 120 players in the field are at par or worse today. FWIW, if DJ birdies #9, he will shoot a ridiculous 26 on the front 9, which would tie a PGA record, and the front 9 on this course is a par 36, 3716 yards, which is long.

Best scores in clubhouse other than the 59 are 64, which supports your post.

He had plenty of chances. Stopped making putts and laying up on 18 was a wuss move.

Interesting day. DJ doesn't shoot a 59 but Scheffler does, meanwhile +9 makes the cut at the Troon bloodbath. At this rate -24 or 25 might be enough to get it done.

Wasn’t he in the rough off the tee? Webb shoots 64 but it could have been 61/62 with a couple more putts made inside 10 feet, including a 5 footer on 18.

He was, which was the first mistake (when 3-wood/6 or 7-iron would have gotten him there easily). How do you sit on the cusp of a 59 with the easiest hole on the course staring you in the face and not make birdie with his length???

I’m going to play devils advocate and say DJ showed some maturity by assessing his situation and deciding laying up was his best option because he wasn’t playing for a 59, he was playing for a win come Sunday. Still, damn man, you need a birdie for 59 and it’s a Par 5!

He did miss several short putts; but his proximity to the hole on approach shots is rather uncanny. He is hitting lasers.

He’s been playing well recently and is in very good position now. If he keeps it up he could win it all.

Agreed.

The lowest score for a 72 hole tournament is -31 261, set by Els in 2009.

DJ currently sitting at -28 through 8 and this course is a Par 71...

Zalatoris and Cameron Young among 4 tied for lead at Korn Ferry event. Live on Golf Channel right now.
