Saudi World Golf Tour 2022/2023 Thread

I don't really agree with that but I'm glad you like it. Way too many worthwhile shots are missed or watched on tape minutes later while they focus on meaningless groups.
Playing Through is brutal. Including that and standard commercials, it feels like total ad time has increased. I try to avoid watching live.

that's fair. I guess i was thinking about what i'm actually seeing. I agree with the part about worthwhile shots being missed.

The job the networks do in covering Golf is amazing. It is such an incredibly good product on every network that carries it.
I mostly agree, except on NBC, which otherwise does a great job, we're subjected to Paul Azinger on the weekends. Try taking a drink each time he says the words pressure and nerves, and you won't make it to the end of the round. Best addition in the last couple of years is probably Colt Knost.

Agree re: Knost. Azinger does not bother me as much as he bothers others. I hate that they shed Gary Koch and Roger Maltbie. Both were outstanding.

Agree about Koch and Maltbie. Just like when CBS shed Kostis and McCord. Kostis was the most informative on course reporter, and McCord the most offbeat. I think McCord and Knost would have been entertaining together. But both networks wanted to get younger folks out there.

The coverage of the end of the tournament can be terrible because there are so few golfers on the course and there are a million commercials.

And I hate to sound ageist and misogynistic, but Dottie Pepper is an old boring hag and needs to retire.

Yea but this is fucking dumb.

Golfs inability to adapt and the olds making the game stay old, is why the sport is dying.
Love it or hate it but golf is different. Etiquette, self-policing, decorum, etc. - including being responsible for your score being correct. And saying golf is dying is really a dumb take. You can't get a tee time anywhere. And some percentage of all those new golfers will be big PGA fans. I know I am an old guy but I play a lot of golf with good players in their 20s and 30s and they are always talking about the PGA.

How hard is it to qualify for the US Open ? You have to stay a few shots behind this guy. 120 for 8 spots at this location. Sergio Garcia birdied 18 to avoid a three-way playoff. Michael Kim is an alternate. Grame McDowell just missed it.

BTW, there's usually some dude going low at Monday qualifying for every PGA event.

folks whined that the star players aren't paid enough, so purses get increased, then everyone is perplexed when there are more commercials.

I don't enjoy her either. Would prefer some youth in that role. I do like Trevor Immleman and the fact that he sounds like a marvel character the whole time
I hadn't thought of that, but Immelman does sound like Taika's Korg.

Was just looking at this week's schedule. Not a fan of Colonial or the Netherlands course. Best viewing this weekend is the LPGA at Shadow Creek outside of Vegas - tough course with great scenery.

Unless I can't count, that looks like ten 3's in a row, not nine.

This dude needed to STFU while everybody still liked him. His driving last weekend was comparable to Justin Rose's.

To be fair, his "all drives" distance average is 276. That'd put him at 196th on tour, or 6th from last. Rory is 1st at 314, the tour average is 292, Rose is at 284.

Against an elite field as a non-touring pro he was 6th in strokes gained putting and had a top 10 round in strokes gained approach Saturday. If you waved a magic wand and gave Block +40 yards of distance off the tee tomorrow, I'm not sure how wrong he is. At the same time, generating insane club head speed while maintaining control is basically the entire point of hitting golf balls well, so it's kind of like a 6'2" 3 point specialist saying if he was only 8 inches taller he'd be an elite basketball player...
