I really don't know. You certainly have more challenges getting kids admitted to Wake than VCU or 'Bama. But he is a very positive role model type of guy. He was friends with some friends of mine who knew him when he was back in Gainesville, and they couldn't say enough nice about him. He was much loved at VCU, but very tough and demanding. He is VERY demanding of his players academically and athletically. Sort of like Skip in that he preached and taught success in all aspects of life. A real teacher type guy. Just demands excellence in all areas, and kids listened to him. I haven't paid much attention since he went to Bama, and my friends moved back to Florida, so I have no idea how things are going off the court down there. I can't recall hearing any negative press, dui's etc, regarding Bama hoops players. Everyone knew he wanted a big HC job, and it was coming sooner rather than later. VCU was a stepping stone to him.
In short, he just had IT. Like with Skip, just a born leader, loved by many, and kids listened to him and he commanded their respect. Dino was a little too buddy, buddy. I called him the rush chairman, and Skip was the boss. AG is the boss, and the boss don't compromise. Sorry to ramble, but AG is a stud, and we could have had him. Still, it would have been a tough decision to make and I don't fault RW for it. It was a horrible situation, but I think it was obvious Dino wasn't ACC head coach material.
