Stephen King Mafia - Day 14 ends 1:30pm
There's no harm in hoping for the best as long as you're prepared for the worst.

Welcome to Stephen King Mafia. For this game, please note that there are two mafia factions with an indeterminate number of players. There are also two hostile independents who must eliminate all other civilians and mafia to win, as well as the other independent.

I note this in all of my games, but clear players based on civilian sounding powers or claims at your own peril. Games are designed so that people win based on the quality of their play, and not the powers they are given. Not all “civilian” powers are necessarily given to civilians. All mafia and independent were given safe claims.

QT and I are co-modding. Please PM both of us with questions or issues. Since there are 30 players in the game, night will take longer to process. You should expect 30-45 minute nights. Any additional vote counts provided by players is always appreciated.

RULES

1. If you have any questions about rules or game setup or need clarification on a specific issue, please PM me. Do not post these questions on the thread. I will not be lenient and will err on the side of AA’ing mod talk EXCEPT IN LIMITED INSTANCES WHERE MOD INTERACTION HAS BEEN STATED TO BE SPECIFICALLY ALLOWED. If the question is something that I feel that needs to be addressed for all players, I will post a Mod Note in the thread.
2. Votes must be made by bolding or starring a player’s name (ex: GAt or ***GAt***). If you would like to switch your vote from one player to another, please indicate this clearly by using language such as “switch to ***GAt***.” I will try to provide frequent vote counts, this will help tremendously in making sure these vote counts are accurate.
3. Two missed votes will result in a AA. If you absolutely know that you will not be available to make a vote during a specific day round, I will allow players to send a proxy vote to me. Any proxy votes will be posted as a Mod Note and will only contain the vote itself.
4. If there is a vote count that you do not think is accurate, DO NOT POST AS SUCH IN THE THREAD. Refer to Rule #1 and send me a PM, preferably with what is the correct vote tabulation and/or what post # contains a different vote than what I have listed.
5. The clock I will be using is the clock at time.gov. Day rounds will end at 10:30:59am/1:30:59pm/4:30:59 pm Eastern Time unless otherwise indicated in a Mod Note.
6. If two or more players are tied at the end of a day round, an instant OT will start. The first additional vote on a player in the tie will instantly end the round and that player will die. If no player has received an additional vote by 10 minutes after the scheduled deadline, the kill will be RNG’d between the players in the tie.
7. In the event of a player receiving a majority of votes prior to the scheduled end of a round, an instant majority vote will be called. Once NIGHT is called, please stop posting. And normal night rules will apply. If a majo has occurred but twilight is not called and posting/voting continues, the majo will still count and no switches after the majo will be recognized.
8. Majority votes will not occur when there are 6 or fewer players remaining.
9. Absolutely no night posting.
10. Every player will receive a PM with their role, including vanilla civs. PMs may not be discussed and/or posted in the game thread. If you decide to claim your role, you may not copy and paste your role PM. Roles may have restrictions surrounding claims.
11. Order of Operations is as follows:
12. 1) Roleblocking abilities
2) All other actions
3) Night kills
13. Other general rules: No editing or deleting posts, No repping of posts, No angleshooting or cheating

And with that…the Man in Black fled across the desert and the Gunslinger followed.

You are Holly Gibney, cop, from several books in the Stephen King universe including Mr. Mercedes and The Outsider. Diagnosed with Autism, OCD, Sensory Processing Disorder, you also suffer from Synesthesia, the extremely rare condition of perceiving one sense as another. While you may not know today's date you're pretty amazing with things that matter. With your unique ability to investigate both the human and the supernatural, you have the honor of serving as cop this game. Each night you will submit one player you want to investigate as mafia. Results will come back as mafia/not mafia.

You are Roland Deschain, civ indy hunter. The Games Network requires a Hunter for the wildly popular show The Running Man. Who better to send as an assassin than the best shot in King's universe than you, Roland? Working with the Games Network, you, the Gunslinger, are aware that Ben Richards is one of the independents in this game. Because you are such a crack shot, we’ve given him a one day head start on your investigations. Beginning night two, you may begin to search to attempt to execute Ben. Rather than a traditional “investigation” – you will submit a name each night – if the name you submitted is Ben Richards, you will execute him immediately that night. You win with the town.

You are Father Callahan, civ vig, Salem’s Lot. A priest who does battle with Kurt Barlow, you lose your faith in Salem’s Lot, unable to cast aside the cross in an attempt to vanquish the Vampire. You become despondent and unclean, bordering on suicidal before your redemption in the Dark Tower series. You are allowed to redeem yourself in this game and to vanquish the threats to this peaceful Town. You are therefore given an unlimited number of vig hits (only one may be used a night). However, the moment you use a hit and it kills a civilian, town aligned player, your grief will become too much to stand, and you will commit suicide to start the following day. If you kill mafia/independents, you will be provided another vig hit to use. This process will continue so long as you have the requisite faith that you’ve chosen your targets correctly.

You are Paul Sheldon, civ, from Misery. Author of the best-selling Misery Chastain series, you’ve moved on to your newest adventure Fast Cars. Yeah, well. We all make mistakes. We will let you be a vanilla civ while you sort through your life choices.

You are Mike Ross, civ, from Joyland. It’s really too bad that you’re dying because you seem like a great kid. A psychic in a wheelchair that can communicate with ghosts? Pretty impressive skills for a 10-year old. We’re sorry to say, we can’t give you any additional powers, we’re trying to keep the game balanced here so you’re a vanilla civ but you probably already knew that.

You are James Gardener, civ, from The Tommyknockers. The good news is you seem to be immune to the effects of the massive spacecraft that is affecting the people of Haven, Maine. The bad news is you are a violent, blackout drunk with a metal plate in your head. We don’t really think you can be trusted with any real responsibilities in this game so you’re just a vanilla civ.

You are Dolores Claiborne, miller civ, from the book Dolores Claiborne. Suspected for years of murdering your husband you are now the prime suspect in the death of the wealthy widow in your care. While Vera died in a freak, yet tragic accident, it turns out you did, in fact, murder your violent, abusive husband (who also happened to be molesting your daughter) several years back with some light encouragement on her part. While we can’t really fault you for tricking him into that well and bashing his face in with a rock, we can understand why the Town has seen you as such a sketchy person for all these years. As such, if investigated by someone looking for mafia/not mafia, your result will be returned mafia even though you are a civ and aligned with the Town.

You are John Coffey, angel. Wrongly accused and sentenced to death for a crime you did not commit, you find yourself on The Green Mile. Despite being marked for death, you possess incredible healing powers for others and can save the lives of those otherwise fatally wounded or afflicted. You are the angel in this game and are authorized to protect one player a night. Being the unselfish man that you are, you are unable to protect yourself.

You are Paul Edgecomb, civ governor, from The Green Mile. You are Captain of the Guard charged with jailing and holding prisoners until they are ready to be executed. You had a crisis of conscience when you realized that John Coffey, one of your wards, was likely innocent yet scheduled to be executed. You attempted to stave off Coffey’s scheduled execution. In this game, you may elect to pardon two lynches of your choosing. You must submit to the moderators via PM “PARDON” within 5 minutes of night being called without exception.

You are Mother Abagail, civ indy hunter, from The Stand. At 108-years old you’ve seen your fair share of life’s evils. Throw in your psychic ability and prophecies and you are the perfect indy hunter for Randall Flagg. You know those opposing him will turn to you for leadership and while the mantle may be heavy and one you have not chosen for yourself, you will do all you can to guide your people to their salvation. Each night you will submit one name to investigate to find the Indy, Randall Flagg. Results will return as Flagg/Not Flagg.

You are Carrie, civ, from Carrie. Homely, awkward, isolated, with bizarre religious beliefs and completely lacking social skills, you are what your mother made you. Thankfully for everyone in this game, you haven’t started your period yet. As such, not only are you a civ but due to your unprecedented naiveté, you’re an innocent child. Moderators will confirm your status on day one.

You are Mark Petrie, civ, from Salem’s Lot. Believer in the supernatural, wielder of a plastic cross, vampire hunter, orphan. You are also a vanilla civ.

You are Ben Richards, independent, from The Running Man. Destitute and out of options to save your dying daughter's life you've turned to the violent Games Network for help and have been selected to participate in The Running Man, the Network's most popular, lucrative, and dangerous program. Congratulations, you are officially an enemy of the Stephen King world and you are being hunted! However, to make things fair, you will receive a one-day head start over the person who has been sent to kill you. I mean, we are sending an expert hunter after you. In addition to your one-day head start, you will have a collection of tools at your disposal that you can earn each day you stay alive. These include: one exact role investigation, two vig hits, one roleblock, one watcher, a passive BPV and one tracker. You can collect your night's tool by submitting the action and who you want to use it on during night moves. You may only use one action per night. One final aspect of your role: it comes with a disguise. Your safe claim: Bev Marsh. You will return not mafia if investigated by the cop.

You are Randall Flagg, aka Walter O’Dim, aka The Man in Black, aka Walter Padick, aka… well, you get the picture, independent from half of the Stephen King Universe. Perhaps King’s most lasting villainous creation, you drift in and out of stories and spread a pestilence amongst characters, good and evil. Featured prominently in The Stand and the Dark Tower, you are unbound by the traditional confines of a story. As the omnipresent “big bad” you are given a unique gift: access to both mafias. Indeed, when the game starts, you will be supplied with both mafia chatzys and they will feel like you a member of their mafia. They will not be given your character name, so be prepared to come up with a claim to be accepted. (Your safe claim is given below.) You are informed that mafia 1 is composed of the following characters CRIMSON KING, PENNYWISE, KURT BARLOW & OVERLOOK HOTEL, and is based upon King’s Supernatural villainous creations, whereas mafia 2 is composed of the following characters [redacted] and is based upon King’s Natural villainous creations.

You are not authorized to make the standard hits for your mafia – if you need to build that into your claim, have at it; if the mafia tries to hit with you, it will not go through and no reason will be given by the moderators. If you are still alive and one of the mafias are eliminated, that faction will be eliminated and you will not have the ability to use their hits.

Other than the knowledge you possess the only other weapon in your arsenal is one bullet. It is a magical bullet and will be untraceable and unblockable. Use it wisely. You win only if you are the last man standing in King’s Universe.

You are the Crimson King, mafia 1, from Insomnia and The Dark Tower Series. With the simple and straightforward goal of ending time and space, you prefer manipulating minions and ordering others around rather than getting your hands dirty. Confined to a tower balcony as the Dark Tower series drew to an end, you watched the conclusion unfold. As such, in this game, you can watch the actions of the Town. You may submit a name each night to watch. You will be told who, if anyone, visited that individual.

You are Pennywise the Clown, mafia 1, from It. Perhaps one of King’s most famous and sadistic villains, shapeshifting and luring children to your lair. Each night you can elect to take on the role of the sadistic clown, or shapeshifting benevolent figure. As the sadistic clown, you can scare a player into being roleblocked that night; as the benevolent figure, you return “not mafia” when investigated. Although you can take the same form on consecutive nights, if you elect to roleblock, you may not roleblock the same player consecutively.

You are the Overlook Hotel, mafia 1, from The Shining. Haunted and historic, the Torrance family came to find out, you are one possessed place that guards many, many secrets. In this game, players who visit you at night, be it for investigation purposes, protection purposes, or what have you, will find their stay to be particularly unpleasant. Due to this, the following day they will be silenced, only allowed to post a vote. They will not know that visiting you at night caused the silencing the next day.

You are Kurt Barlow, mafia 1, Salem’s Lot. An ancient vampire, thousands of years old, you have left several millennia’s worth of destruction in your wake and kept an infinite number of people under your control. To exert your control people in this game and show them who is their Master, you have the option to find a player each night and bite them. That player will be informed at the conclusion of the night that he was bitten by Kurt Barlow. The player will remain a civilian but will fall under your sway, with any votes cast by said player against you the remainder of the game being rendered ineffective. Perhaps you can turn enough of this small town into vampires by the game’s end to lead your faction to victory.

You are Mrs. Sigsby, mafia 2, from The Institute. Well trained at torturing kidnapped telepathic and telekinetic children at The Institute in hopes of enhancing their powers, you will use your skills in this game to gather information for mafia. On nights when your mafia is not out killing someone, you can choose to bring someone back to your lair and use your torture skills to interrogate them to find out their alignment in the game. These interrogations will result in results that will be labeled “mafia” “civ” or “independent”.

You are Mrs. Carmody, mafia 2, from The Mist. A religious fanatic with a belief in a vengeful, bloodthirsty God, you became a prophet of sorts for those trapped in a town grocery store, sheltering from a deadly Mist. As you amassed power, you begin to convince others that your proclamations have power, going so far as to state that certain individuals must be sacrificed for the greater good. This game, on nights where your mafia has a hit, you can proclaim the name in chatzy of someone not in your mafia who shall die the next day. If that person dies the following day, and you have voted for them the next round, you will be afforded a vig hit to use on a player of your choosing the following night.

You are Annie Wilkes, mafia 2, Misery. The deranged antagonist from Misery, you have a singular obsession with Paul Sheldon. Fortunately for you, and perhaps unfortunately for Paul, he has found his way into this game to share more time with you. Furious at Paul for burning the manuscript of Misery’s Return, you want nothing more than to see him dead this game. If Paul dies via lynch, and you are voting to lynch Paul, your mafia will be able to dig into your stockpile of pain killers to drug an individual the following night. While that person is knocked out, you will be informed of what powers that person has (if any – but not their alignment). You will steal their powers for the night and be able to utilize them for yourself.
