I've literally been arguing with RSF about whether chekhov is even a famous playwright for most people for the last half hour (I say nah, not even close to being a good sheep answer). It's amazing and the results back up my take.

there has been an argument going on off the boards between me and cookout for the past hour over chekhov

i'm adamant he was a good choice (he was my second pick, behind wilde) and cookout had never heard of him or the term "chekhov's gun" somehow???????
 
My next guesses after Miller was Bertol Brecht and Christopher Marlowe (just because of the conspiracy theory that he was secretly Shakespeare).
