No doubt, a long-term problem. Unfortunately our politicians are mainly concerned with short-term issues that may bring them support; or they prefer to do nothing at all. Trying to deal with a long-term problem, while possibly/probably losing popularity in the short run is not on their agenda.

Doing so would violate those western liberal values you were just speaking of.

I love this guy's logic though: "No one should be able to compel another person to conceal their face because of their gender so we are going to compel all people to reveal their faces."
