The New Socialists

MHBD now full-on OWG mode clamoring for the 'common sense' governance of Joe Six Pack

my boi Albert:

Second, socialism is directed towards a social-ethical end. Science, however, cannot create ends and, even less, instill them in human beings; science, at most, can supply the means by which to attain certain ends. But the ends themselves are conceived by personalities with lofty ethical ideals and—if these ends are not stillborn, but vital and vigorous—are adopted and carried forward by those many human beings who, half unconsciously, determine the slow evolution of society.

For these reasons, we should be on our guard not to overestimate science and scientific methods when it is a question of human problems; and we should not assume that experts are the only ones who have a right to express themselves on questions affecting the organization of society.

no one said that experts were the only people with a right to express ideas

and my counter argument is that dumb people expressed their thoughts on organizing society when they voted in the Trump administration

You were the one who took my concern about technocracy and distorted it to me saying something else. You might not have explicitly said "experts were the only people with a right to express ideas" but the effect of your argument was the same.

lol listen, you started out marching against the supposed 'technocrats' and myself, among others, said that's dumb and basically the same tactic the far right used to get trump in power ( as well as squelch myriad other ideas throughout history)

technocrats are not destroying this country or preventing people from voting for socialist platforms.

if a doctor tells you to take aspirin for 20 years because that was the best idea out there based on the evidence and then later, new evidence says it was actually not helpful, that doesn't mean the idea of research and medical advice is bad.

You are still looking past my argument in favor of assuming I’m clamoring for Sarah Palin. It’s right there in the Einstein essay.

The rise of the automobile and all the technocratic solutions to traffic that have failed seem to better represent my argument than your aspirine one.

is that right? what's a populist solution to "traffic" (whatever that means, in your context)?

Your previous statement about the automobile and technocrats.

The biggest problem with traffic here in the home of traffic happened in the 1940s when an oil company and a tire company conspired to kill a growing, effective public transportation system.

what? it's not the fault of experts designing traffic systems that the timing of the invention of mass produced cars, middle class disposable income after wwII and culture of individualism gave rise to culture of the automobile.

if only we listened to ????? and built more trains tracks across this nation criss crossed with ancient railway easements in 1956 instead of an interstate highway system !

I'm not sure what you are arguing. Do you think Uber and Lyft are solutions to our traffic problems?

If we could automate the ride sharing cars, it would help. Not really at this time though, however they are providing a means of income 750+ thousands of people in America.
