the official new supreme court thread - Very political

“Can’t prove a negative” is lazy. Just find Republicans who aren’t doing what MDMH and I are describing. The mainstream Republican stance is pro-violence with little to no regard for human life. That’s why 200K dead from COVID-19 is no big deal and grounds for re-election.

Senior advisor to the president, Jared Kushner, reportedly said said it was ok to let COVID run rampant in blue states, yet your suggesting that Republicans think killing democrats is the solution to the countries problems, is a problem.

As the last few posts show, there is an abundance of evidence that Republicans not only hold Democrats in contempt, but a good many (too many) at least harbor fantasies of killing or at least harming liberals, to the point of openly discussing it on social media, meetings, and elsewhere. And what they mentioned are only a few of the things that have been said and done over the last four years by Trump and other conservatives. And some have already acted on those fantasies. There is also an abundance of evidence that Trump and some other conservatives have been encouraging this attitude, and broadly hinting at violence or harmful actions towards liberals and Democrats (and sometimes not just hinting.) To deny this is to deny reality at this point. Is it all Republicans and conservatives who think or are saying this? No, of course not. But is it a higher percentage than many would like to admit? Yep, no doubt. I guess it all goes to back to conservatives insisting that Trump isn't serious when he says the stuff that he does, and that his followers don't take him literally at his word. And that's a dangerous assumption, imo.

They had a COVID plan and abandoned it in favor of letting it hit blue states and blaming Democratic governors.

Oh boy

A July 2007 “our money our selves” edition of People of Praise’s Vine & Branch magazine included an article about a 17-member group of women described as “single for the Lord” and living together in South Bend, Indiana. The women shared a “sisterhood budget”, which involved them pooling their paychecks while a “head of the sisterhood” determined, with the sisters’ input, how the money was spent.

“If one of us has a need, we’ll pay for it,” one woman named Debbie was quoted as saying. “But we also work hard to distinguish between our needs and our wants.”

The “sisterhood” is described as living “simply, frugally, and generously”, with about $36 put aside per week per person for food and dry goods and $10 for pocket money to buy “Slurpees and movie tickets”. They buy clothes at thrift stores and garage sales and 10% of their income is directed to People of Praise.

The article quotes a head sister named Nano as saying: “If each of us had her own money, it would change everything. Just as we would have our own shelf in the refrigerator, so we would probably partition off other parts of our lives and be more guarded in certain areas. Having money in common moves you to put everything in common.”

Collectivist drivel

He’s preparing for a Supreme Court election fight. Republicans know they aren’t going to get more votes so they are preparing for it to come down to SCOTUS deciding which votes count.

Trumpublican cult gets cult member onto the scotus. These effing deplorables.

The only way that crap like this stops is if the GOP finally starts paying a price at the polls, and paying that price consistently. As long as they can do stuff like this and pay no penalty in most election cycles it will simply never stop, and will in fact continue to get worse.

The nominee he's picked isn't going to help him win the election, that's for sure. So I'm not sure why he wants to assure she's in place before the election. It's a long time from now to January.

because, as I explained earlier, it would be politically stupid not to

Exactly. They can’t just get their ass handed to them this election (and, I’m still not 100% convinced that will happen). But, even if it does, it won’t stop them. They’ll be able to rationalize it away as anti-Trump while still moving forward promoting his agenda. It needs to be for at least the next 3 election cycles.

Keep this image in mind as Republicans drag out their fainting couches to claim that any criticism of Barrett is an attack on Catholics and/or women.

Also every time the nra’s whores demand a grief period after a mass shooting before discussing politics.

It's already started. When George Stephanopoulos this morning mentioned a new ABC poll that showed a large majority of voters preferred to wait until after the election to fill the Supreme Court seat, the GOP operative on his roundtable prattled on about how this nomination fight will help Republican Senate candidates because of all the anti-Catholic bigotry already being expressed by LibDems. When George pointed out that neither Biden nor any Democratic Senator had said anything like that, she said well yes, but it's out there. I'm sure they'll gin up that any criticism of Barrett's ideas or previous decisions is an attack on "Americans of Faith." It's what they do.
