Tonya Harding

they [Redacted]'d the assault.

[Redacted]'d (v.) is the act of explaining/excusing a larger-scale negative result with an illogical subset of extraneous positive data taken from within.

So, for example, the most recent example was his quote from Saturday's post-game:

“Hey, I’ll tell you what: I’d say for three-quarters of the game we defended pretty well” [Redacted] said.

More classic examples lie in Bz's historic use of (paraphrasing) "if it wasn't for ______, we would have ______"... If Iona hadn't have jumped out to that 42-5 lead, we're right there with them.

I just submitted that to urban dictionary.

20 years ago -- most of you guys are too young to remember, but there actually was a time when women's figure skating was the biggest sport in the world (at least for a few short weeks that year). And it was all due to a trailer park bad-girl with her butt cheeks hanging out of her skating outfit, whos husband hired someone to take a baton to her rival's knee.

IIRC, the phrase was actually coined by somebody with media ties in Colorado and a couple of us latched onto it.

I wouldn't mind somebody starting a thread dedicated to posting more legitimate examples (both from Bz himself and examples of other prominent people committing the act). I think I actually have a list laying around from when I was compiling quotes to put on FireBz that I never put to use. It's impressive how often it occurs with him.

One of Bz's funnier (but more inside context) ones I remember was from an 11-point loss to NC State in 2012:

"That’s a seven-point play and a four-point play, that’s 11 points right there in two particular plays"

After a reporter pointed out that State went on runs of 12-0, 20-4, 13-2 and 11-2 over the course of the game...

"That 12-0 run, the 7-point play was part of it, okay? And our radio people told us if you take away those runs that we outscored them by 19."

Some others outside WF have seemingly recognized its meaning:

Women's figure skating is dominant every Winter Olympics.

Yeah, figure skating is like gymnastics in the Summer Games. I don't mind watching the females too much, hard not to be a world class figure skater and not have a nice body.

You're correct and my comment was probably poorly worded. But I was referring to the 24-7 coverage that figure skating got leading up to the Olympics that year and even a couple of years afterward, with sports bars showing skating rather than football or baseball, with the early-90s skaters being household names, with guys watching it even if their girlfriends didn't make them, etc.

I watched that 30 for 30 and found it really interesting. I wasn't old enough to really remember what happened so seeing the video of it happening and seeing what a whackjob Harding is was crazy.

You're just a year younger than me and I remember it in graphic detail. A few weeks back we had dinner with a couple friends and were discussing it. Mtndeac sort of remembered it but I remembered lots of details. In fact I remember more than those that we were with who were 13 and 20 at the time.

Old hat? Katarina Witt still looks good. She definitely looked good in the 90s.

I kinda liked her homemade porn video. Just sayin

I just rewatched it thanks to the internets - lucky for all of us that amateur sextapes have come a long way since the early 90s.

I actually wanted someone to knock her out when she starts crying "why, why, why!!!"

Seriously, just wanted someone to whack her in the face and shut her up. What a drama queen.

Kerrigan at the time was the stereotype ice skater. Total prima donna bitch with a heart of ice. The way she carried on the the Olympics before the medal ceremony was classic, as was her attitude at DisneyWorld. And her agent's ex-wife probablely has little good to say about her. Plus, she has horse teeth.

Away from skating, she's had some bad stuff happen. Her mother was blind and her brother killed her father.

Oksana Baiul was my girl back in the day. I'm glad she beat that bitch Kerrigan. Probably went out and got hammered afterwards and ended up in an orgy.

Kristi Yamaguchi obviously.

Tara Lipinsky was young for my time but she has aged well.

Michelle Kwan of course.
