Totally Unofficial 2019/2020 Premier League Thread (NWT)

Gave the ball away way too many times in the second half, also WTF Lallana? Still, three points at Stamford Bridge is huge.

Is this the year the top 6 is no longer a thing? Those tiers don't seem to be there this year.
I think Leicester might be the only team to challenge. Everton is close but dont think over 38 games they can get enough close results. For all of the accolades wolves got last year, they only scored 2 more goals than burnley and are coming down to earth this year

what does Mount offer that makes him the first selection on the team sheet? Sucks that lamps personal project is gonna mean limited PT for pulisic

Mount has played very well this season. Willian and Pedro on the other hand...

OGS confirms that Rashford injured (pulled) his groin. I've had that injury and it is a minimum of 6 weeks to even get back to feeling like you can cut and turn again.

Martial still out injured.
Lukaku sold
Sanchez off on loan
Mason Greenwood having a typical teenage sickness with tonsillitis.

Absolute shambles how this club is being run. Ed Woodward is a disgrace.

OGS's first 27 games same points as Mourinho's last 27 games (48 pts) for a win % of 51.9%.

Not quite up to Moyes's tenure, 52.94%.

I see two sides to the United right now. The first is that OGS has a plan which makes some sense in that he’s moved on from the old guard who were generally overpaid and who had arguably already seen their best days, and focused on younger, more dynamic talents in the hope of building a base for long term success. From what we’ve seen from Rashford, Martial, McGuire, Wan-Bissaka and James, it’s fair to say that there is a coherent plan in place, even if it is only just beginning.

The other side of the story is inescapable and that’s that the team is not very good right now, and that’s especially true with Martial, Pogba, Shaw and now Rashford all injured. I can’t recall watching a United team that was as talentless as the group trying to chase down West Ham on Saturday. Obviously, they absolutely should have bought a midfielder this summer and that failure is highlighted by Pogba’s injury, Fred’s uselessness, Matic’s aging body and McTominay’s limitations.

All of which is to say, if United believes in OGS, it should be patient with this year’s results and give him a window or two more to continue to rebuild the squad. And obviously, they have to back him in the transfer market. Otherwise, it’s just more treading water and starting a new rebuild every 18 months.

LvG's?

and for shits, SAF's?

SAF isn't really a fair comparison for obvious reasons. He managed the club in 1,500 (!!!!!!) games, to a 59.7% winning percentage.

van Gaal went 52.43% in 103 matches.

Mourinho's overall tenure was more successful than his final 27 games. Overall, he won 58.3% of his 144 matches in charge.

LOL

OGS in mid-July was talking about bringing in a proven center forward

Club did nothing

So OGS, being a respectful person, started hyping up Greenwood as the 3rd striker option

The way the club is run is shambolic and I'm not sure any manager could succeed here given the current culture. It is maddening to watch.

United has fallen down the current pecking order as City, Pool and Tottenham have all taken steps forward. Whereas a decade ago those clubs did not have firm infrastructure in place to really compete, all have taken big steps forward. That puts pressure on decisions other clubs make in terms of how they spend and operate. ManU had more to lose than any other club. They used to bully the transfer market. Chelsea started to change that for them and City has put a lot more pressure on there. City won their first title 7 seasons ago. United has all they need as a club to compete. But they react these days vis a vos other clubs vs lead.

2018/19 was another record revenue year for United. They just haven't had a plan in a long, long time.

This is old at this point, but cash statements follow a year behind, but it's the most updated version we have (17/18 season):

Spurs have gone to penalties against Colchester... (not that this really matters)
