I think we're going to be pleasantly surprised. He's a shot blocker and scraps for rebounds.
But my point was more along the lines of - Green is a smart kid who keeps his feet moving. If Bzd gets nothing out of him next year, that's a tell for me. Bzd did wonders in Denver with about four guys that were the NBA version of Green: hustlers, if you will. Guys that brought energy. So, if he can't get Green to be a positive on the court next year in a similar way, even for 8-10 minutes, I am concerned about his college coaching abilities.
If Walker and Tabb are gone and I am going to assume they are, then Green is our backup center. For some reason, I am far more comfortable with that than if Green and Walker were gone and Tabb was our backup center.
To survive in the ACC this year, we're going to have to scrap for every rebound. Green is a scrapper. So is McKie. So is TC, I am hoping. Carson did not reveal himself to be much of a scrapper last year, so Green could actually prove to be crucial.
Call it a hunch. Because that is what it is. We need a scrapper in there trying to get rebounds. Nikita is one. McKie is probably our best rebounder. If Green can provide that for 8 to 20 minutes, awesome. He doesn't have to score. We also are going to need a guard fight for rebounds a la Jason Kidd. CJ and Terrell didn't really provide that last year so on the assumption they won't next year, that leaves TC. He has the physical and mental makeup for it, but you have to be able to anticipate where missed shots are going to be a good rebounding guard. We'll see.
