Virginia vs. Wake Forest Game Thread - Fuck It All To Hell

We've lost 3 or 4 games this year already almost solely due to pathetic free throw shooting. No one can change that but players. YOu can have a great game like Crawford did but when you brick 3 or 4 free throws in the last minute (and he's certainly not the only one) you get what you deserve. We were 6 for 15 in the last minute and change. Beyond pathetic. Add in teh great defensive play Crawford made to steal teh ball from Brogden but then throw it away which led straight to a wide open three and the die is cast.
Our free throw problems reminds me of the year Frank Johnson broke his foot and we had to plug in a walk on ( Benny McCaig) at point guard. We were leading Duke by 20 and they put on a full court press. We couldn't get the ball past half court on about 10 straight possessions( no timeout by Tacy) and the game and season were over. We got pressed the rest of the season. For the rest of this season, we will get fouled every time we have a lead in the final minutes. Who is going to make them for us? It might help if we stop throwing it in to DT and Crab.

They need to listen to Coach Chill about late game FT's.

I still remember him saying how he loved getting fouled to close out games to "punish the other team" at the FT line and to "pad his stats."

This season, we've done neither.

Listening to him doesn't mean they'll be able to do it. Sometimes you just got it or you don't.

I've been a WF fan for over half a century and I have to face up to the painful reality that Wake is a pathetic joke athletically! It is the whipping post and laughing stock of the ACC. A few winning seasons in basketball and still fewer in football seduces gullible fans into the notion that Wake can win in the money sports But it can't! It's a cruel hoax...in part because those in charge aren't willing to do what is necessary to win.

Wake ought to give up on big-time athletics or at least join a lesser conference where occasional wins are possible.

Umm.... no way. Wake is a charter member of the ACC and will never leave the conference (voluntarily).

The L stings but 'gotta believe that better days are ahead in the seasons to come with this young core group.... at least that's what we've got to keep telling ourselves!

Many thought that about the young core group of which Devin and Codi were a part. We need more talent and better coaching. There's not enough of either right now, just like there wasn't enough back then.

All of you who are going back to the Odom/Prosser/Gaudio days are remembering a wonderful time. I remember them well and had an amazing time cheering on the Deacs.

That time is gone, and while you may be blaming Wellman, I think he's performing exactly the role the WFU administration has asked him to perform in a way WFU administration deems successful.

The days of WF being a norm in the top 4 of a big power conference are gone unless we have a big change in how WFU values big money athletics and what WFU is willing to do in order to be great.

I learned it the day Wake got Pittsnoggled in the NCAAs. More learned in through other heart breakers over the years. Maybe a few more learned it tonight. Following WFU sports is a hobby, not a passion. If you're truly passionate about seeing WFU be great in big time revenue sports, you're in for a sad existence. Instead just accept our fate as a lower level ACC program that wins games we shouldn't once in a while, and once in a great while has a very good season. Go to the games, have a big time with friends and family, be a good fan of what's out there, and find a hobby that is at least a tiny bit within your control.

This is the most accurate post and best advice in the history of all the boards. Anyone whose happiness is tied to WFU sports success will be miserable. The reasons why we can't get it done don't matter. "Following WFU sports is a hobby, not a passion" should become the slogan, motto and mission statement for this board and everyone on it.

It took 40 something years for me to "get it." Now, I watch the games, when I'm in front of a TV and there's nothing better on. I enjoy the games. I hope (only hope, not expect or demand) that WFU will win. When they do, that's really cool. Like seeing a new bird at the feeder, or a mountain lion on the game cam. When they don't, that's OK. Maybe next game.

I laughed when that shot banked in last night. Not a hateful, screw Wellman sort of laugh. A wow, that was crazy sort of laugh.

Maybe it would be more fun to pull for a school with good sports, where winning and devoting the resources to doing it are a priority. But I unknowingly crossed that river back in 1977 when I applied for early decision.

I don't regret it. But I'm through trying to wish it into something it's not.

That's exactly how I remember that game as well. I was there. In fact, I think we were even losing by half time after leading by 20 about mid-way through the first half.

I think our administration from the top down, has us playing for participation trophies. We need to participate to get the money it brings and the exposure being in a major conference brings, but other than that I don't know that Hatch and company really care about trying to win. Until that changes, given that our small size already works against us, then us being good in sports that anyone actually cares much about is darn near impossible. It just sucks for us really true, hardcore fans that (whether it's logical or not) are as passionate for Wake Forest sports as any Alabama or Kentucky fan is.

We simply don't have the talent/maturity to compete in the ACC this year. Will we ever return to loftier heights? I don't know. I hope so. I do think that coaches always look better when teams win. We just don't have the horses for it right now. So many things this team is simply poor at.

I just find it hard to get excited anymore until we can field a decent team for a full season or two. Not for one game. Not for one stretch of games. At least one full season.

Wake hoops at this point and really since Buzzdick resembles The Thing. It looks like a basketball team, presumably smells like one, acts like one, but something underneath is just fucked up. Put it under any kind of heat and its head is going to melt off, turn into a spider, and go hide somewhere while everybody freaks out. Rinse and repeat every goddamn year.

And we're not going to have a senior that even contributes for another 2 years. Unbelievable.

Would be interesting to append final Kenpom, AP, etc rankings to that chart for someone who has the time.

Anyone have any insight into why Moore only played two minutes? Did he look bad when he got some PT?
