Wake Forest 2023 baseball season thread (Deacs end historic season with extra inning loss to LSU: Final record 54-12 and top 4 finish nationally)

Yep. Every pitch is either a ball or a strike. So there is a 50-50 chance it's a strike regardless. If you don't swing, there is a 100% chance that you won't hit the ball. If you do swing it raises the odds of hitting the ball dramatically. And if we don't win tonight, there is a 100% chance our season is over. If we do win, there is a 50-50 chance we win the National Championship. So there is much more to gain by swinging away.
Our players know this. There is an art and science to hitting. You can’t swing wildly at every pitch.

Being perfect is about being able to look your friends in the eye and know that you didn't let them down, because you told them the truth. And that truth is that you did everything that you could. There wasn't one more thing that you could've done.

I believe in the soul, the cock, the pussy, the small of a woman's back, the hanging curve ball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone, I believe that there oughta be a constitutional amendment outlawing astroturf and the designated hitter, I believe in the "sweet spot", soft core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas eve, and I believe that the Deacs will win the goddamn world series.

Wake Forest drew 9 walks against Alabama in Game 2 of the super regional, which was a large key to scoring 22 runs.
Easier to get ahead in the count and draw walks when you're a threat to swing. When you aren't a threat to swing, it's easier for the opposing pitcher to throw strikes. Easier for the opposing pitcher to get ahead in the count if we never take a crack at the first pitch. You have to be a threat. Right now, pitchers aren't afraid of our bats. Our whole team looks timid at the plate. They've seen some of our best hitters watch 3 strikes go by without lifting their bat off their shoulder.

We've made the LSU bullpen look like our bullpen. We've sat around expecting them to make mistakes rather than aggressively going after them and forcing them into mistakes. Hope is not a strategy. Gotta make them feel you.

The first pitch almost always right now is just a heater in the strike zone. It's like playing bingo, we're giving them a free strike every at bat. We start so many 0-1 and usually 0-2 that it becomes very difficult.

Before this game started Walter said 9 innings for the next 99 years of our lives. I say fuck that. I say fuck that. Let's go out there and play the next 9 innings for the next 9 innings and leave it all on the field. We have our whole lives to be mediocre but we have the chance to play like gods for the next game of baseball. But we cant be afraid to lose. There's no room for fear in this game. If we go out there and we half-ass it because we're scared then all we're left with is an excuse. We're always gonna wonder. But if we go out there and give it absolutely everything, I say we're gonna win. Let's be heroes! Come on! Come on...!
