Wake Forest 2023 baseball season thread (Deacs end historic season with extra inning loss to LSU: Final record 54-12 and top 4 finish nationally)

So this. such a head scratcher as once down 3 it would have been better to rely on rest of bullpen which has seen limited action and use Sully for tonight to start or to come in to back up Rhett. really wasted a great lefty and went against what Walter said his approach would be in super regional and would assume the same.

I do wonder if a slight advantage to Rhett vs Skenes coming back on shorter rest given Rhett throws more breaking/curves/etc whereas Skenes dominance is due to a 100+ fastball that might not have quite the pop or at least might not be as reliable for as long???

Gators are loving it as Continue to play and wear out arms. Guessing odds are flipping their way….
the game was early enough that we shouldn't have given up on it. Our offense just failed to get us back in the game.

If an entire thread should ever be devoted to getting the bat off the shoulder, the Time Is Now. No more studious looks. Swing please.
Yep. Every pitch is either a ball or a strike. So there is a 50-50 chance it's a strike regardless. If you don't swing, there is a 100% chance that you won't hit the ball. If you do swing it raises the odds of hitting the ball dramatically. And if we don't win tonight, there is a 100% chance our season is over. If we do win, there is a 50-50 chance we win the National Championship. So there is much more to gain by swinging away.

Let me be clear. I don’t mind walks. Esp in these tight games when every base runner and run counts.

What I can’t stand is how some of our best hitters watch perfectly good pitches sail by for strikes. Pitches that we’ve all seen them mash for extra base hits and dingers all season long. What’s worse is going down on strikes looking. Over and over.

It’s been the recurring theme of our offense since we got to Omaha. I don’t know if it’s the stadium, the stage, the competition, or just we are flat out guessing wrong on these pitches.

But I’m hoping we can remedy it or at least improve on it for tonight. We don’t need 10 home runs, although that would be awesome. We need solid contact above anything else that leads to putting the ball in play for base hits (and potentially errors made by them in the field).

Pierce and Tommy got robbed last night on solid hits that were right on the screws and right at fielders. Just rotten luck.

Let’s flip the script tonight. Go Deacs!!!

We need to cut down on the lazy fly ball outs.

Line drives are on the recipe for tonight!

Stan said that he won't be on the radio call tonight since he'll be back in W-S for the Allegacy Stadium re-naming ceremony.

We need the win tonight to get Stan back to Omaha for the weekend!

If Skenes is indeed going tonight, we have to be more aggressive. He throws fastballs and has only walked 19 guys all year. Swing the bat and the contact should be hard given the velocity. LSU has lost games that Skenes has started. WF has not lost a game that Rhett has started.

That’s ridiculous. This is one of the biggest games in WFU sports history. Maybe THE biggest.

That has got to suck for Stan, have to fly back for the puff and fluff of a stupid renaming ceremony (it's Groves Stadium as far as I'm concerned) and won't get to call this huge game.

I think Stan has been here long enough to hold enough veto power on that decision. I hope he fought them on it, or at least let them know his opinion

I don't care if the ball is halfway to the dugout. If Kurtz looks at the first pitch of an at bat tonight I'm going to puke.
