Wake Forest 2023 baseball season thread (Deacs end historic season with extra inning loss to LSU: Final record 54-12 and top 4 finish nationally)

But the players are amateurs. The umps are the pros on the field.
Ha ha. A lot of the players on the field are making more in NIL monies than these NCAA umps are making. But still not the point because the guys in blue are still not pros at this level. They become pros when they hit the minor leagues and start working their way up. Still they are an elite group to have been one of 32 chosen to work a Super Regional.

The NCAA having a placeholder up for Bracket 1 showing us on Friday is making it annoying for Wake fans to properly book their tickets for a Saturday start.

Elite but not pro, huh

This is odd excusing away of what you are tacitly agreeing is lousy performance

So the Bama boards are complaining about the size of our field calling it small etc., but based on what I see online our field is slightly bigger than theirs. Am I missing something?

Wake:

LF-310, LC-370, CF-400, RC-367, RF-300

Bama:

Foul lines: 320 feet Power alleys: 360 feet Center field: 390 feet

and for an additional comparison, here is Florida, which is a bit bigger (although most of the HRs Wake hit are out on any of these dimensions):

LF: 330' (100.6m) LC: 380' (115.8m) CF: 400' (121.9m) RC: 380' (115.8m) RF: 330' (100.6m)
You're using logic, which upthread we declared that Alabama fans don't know how to use logic.

I booked refundable hotel and flight for finals. Wondering about the actual tickets - best to wait til teams are eliminated this weekend for better prices?

So the umps are volunteers?

Just got this pic of Bama taxiing out to fly home after getting that ass whipped at The Couch

Didn't realize our foul lines were that close. Were they that close even when it was a minor league park? The rest of the dimensions are pretty normal.

Usually a short foul line will have a bigger wall to compensate, Fenway being an extreme example. Fenway also has the shortest right field line in MLB, but it is so absurdly angled that you rarely see one that wouldn't go out in another ballpark. I think I remember Rich Gedman hitting a cheap HR down the RFL circa 1986.
I tailgated with a couple guys yesterday who worked the grounds crew at Ernie Shore when the Warthogs were there. According to them, there used to be two fences, and the crew would switch out which fence was used based upon who was using the field. Not sure if Wake went with the shorter or longer fence, but I would think we used the shorter fence based upon the space behind our current fence.

Our section had some fun interactions with the bullpen over the weekend. I think my favorite was in the 9th yesterday when Alabama had essentially put in every reliever they had. @BacktoBack asked if they had anyone left to put in, and one guy with his arm in a cast raised his hand. B2B responded, you don't count, you're crippled. We and the player got a nice chuckle out of that one.

I didn't see it here but did any hear why the Alabama pitcher McMillan was ejected.?
This guy was talking so much junk to fans along the first base line and into RF prior to getting kicked out. Dropped more f-bombs in a small amount of time than I had ever heard, total meathead clearly has some issues. As he left, he was escorted out to the bus and was shouting to Wake fans to "meet him at the bus, after the game." Idiot.
