"In an interesting point, Wake Forest’s AD Ron Wellman has always seemed to be highly regarded and well respected for the work he has done in Winston-Salem. However, Wake Forest has fallen all the way to 92nd after being as high as 23rd back in 2007 and has fallen off 16, 21 and 18 spots in each of the last 3 years."

92nd? Damn that's embarrassing. Our AD needs an overhaul.

Dead last in the ACC, far below GT and in the bottom 5 of BCS schools. We've got a very real problem. This is very damning for Wellman moreso even than Bz.

Mens basketball is only 1 part of that formula.

Wow that is pretty damning evidence.

I would expect big improvements. I would assume Men's Soccer and Tennis will be top 10 perenially. Baseball improving, Hoops improving. Women's soccer top , hoops getting better, I would assume Women's Tennis and Men's basketball will be big question marks.

I agree that improvements are expected, but finishing 92nd in any year is completely unacceptable in Wake Forest athletics.

At #92, Worse than Lee Fowler ever was?

In Lee Fowler’s last season as AD, NC State ranked 89th in the standings.

I agree it sucks but is there anyone outside of message board posters who care about the Director's Cup?

no. but it confirms most people's perception that wake athletics are terrible

This has been a long time coming with a total asshat in charge with no system in place to check him/hold him truly accountable. Ron Wellman became drunk on his own power and WFU athletics has suffered as a result of that.

But, HEY! At least Ronny boy heads up the NCAA men's bball selection committee now. He is getting his! Twat. He can fuck off.

Sadly, I think many alums and fans have just given up at this point. Most tired of pointing out the obvious only to have a few DEMAND that the emperor is, in fact, wearing clothes.

It's grown beyond old.

For all the talk about facilities, those improvements have only resulted in the 92nd rated athletic program.

The facilities were big for our program and really his specialty, moreso than choosing coaches.

We used to get alot of points out of golf and tennis, but those have both been down. For us to score in the twenties or thirties, bascially all of our top sports have to be rolling at the same time, because we offer so few sports.

FH not making the tourney really hurt us too.

This is about where Wake sports usually would end up pre-Wellman.

Wellman happened to be hired a year before the Sear's Cup was created, so there's no empirical proof I can point to. So all I can say is, no I don't believe that the mid 90s is where Wake would have ended annually pre Wellman.

Most of our points would have been golf and tennis back then. Wake sports sucked before Wellman got here. The only really nationally competitive program was men's golf. I guess Men's x-country had a nice run right about the time he got here.

We would have regularly scored around the bottom of BCS teams. Maybe would have been in the 50s or 60s during some of the best years.

We finished 92 this year when women's soccer made the final 4, men's soccer made the ncaa tourney and we made a bowl game. During the 80s, having a team finish in the top 4 nationally was a rare occurrance.

We need to get FH and the country club sports back to their usual level of performance. They have all tanked at the same time.
