Will the socialistic NFL salary cap keep the Seahawks from being a dynasty?

They are tied for the youngest team to win a Super Bowl.

Much like the Big Brother salary cap that punishes excellence in scouting, trading and drafting made the Rams move many player, the same is coming soon to Seattle.

The socialistic salary cap also punishes the fans. They support this team but Big Brother says, "Fuck you, we have to make you lose players you love to teams you hate."

What's ironic is how all these "free market", billionaire capitalists, who obsess about any government involvement in the day-to-day businesses, demand to protected by the government that is the NFL from their own incompetence and from others' excellence.

They are billionaires because they are smart enough to conspire with their other billionaire owners to artificially depress labor costs, which is what the salary cap is.

Far from hating it, the owners love it to the extent that they allowed a significant labor stoppage in order to strengthen it.

IMO the "socialistic Big Brother" salary cap is what makes the NFL so great. It's an even playing field. Bad teams can become good in 3 years. It keeps more fans interested and makes for great parity during games.

You realize that "socialistic" deals entered into freely because the market allows it isn't the same as socialism as an economic system, right?

Also, LOL at equating a profession to socialism that is run by billionaires and that turns it's employees into millionaires for providing entertainment.

Actually in a way, it rewards all those things in the long run. In the absence of a cap, a small market team like Seattle would probably be greatly outspent in payroll by the Giants, Jets, Cowboys, etc. That would reduce the advantage the Seahawks gain from operating as a smarter franchise. In the short run, yes, the Seahawks can't retain all the talent they've scouted. But neither could the Oakland A's or Tampa Bay Rays, who operate in a league with a much softer salary cap.

If we could persuade the ACC to adopt a similar system (give losers extra schollies and take them away from winners) then after 10-15 years [Redacted] could possibly succeed.

Copy edit, RJ. You can do it. I believe in you.

One of the big advantages that the Seahawks and the 49ers have is quality QBs that make very little compared to the massive salaries paid to elite QBs (Wilson made a little more than $500K this year, and will make less than $700K next year - and under the CBA, his 2015 salary cannot be renegotiated so Seattle can keep Wilson for little next year too). As a result, Seattle had $20 million more than Denver to spend on the rest of the roster and it showed. Like Baltimore last year who had to dump a many quality players to pay Joe Flacco, Seattle will face the same decision with Wilson after next season.

They are still hypocritical socialists.

How are they hypocritical? Their political views are probably like 90% of Americans -- pro-whatever gives them the most money.

The draft is something you earn.

I am absolutely opposed to hard caps. It definitively screws fans and penalizes excellence. There isn't a single owner who thinks his earnings should be limited. It's not fair to players, fans or competent owners.

If there has to be a salary cap, it should have a Bird Rule and no penalties for going the cap to keep your own players. Yes, that means I oppose the NBA's "luxury tax" when you are keeping your own players.

A hard cap stifles excellence and rewards incompetence.

They are hypocritical, becasue they would never allow anyone to impose earnings on themselves or their other companies.

They are hypocritical, because they would scream bloody murder if the government would tell them what the max is to pay their employees or themselves.

Haha how do you earn the draft? You can "earn" the best player by being terrible. Now THAT sounds socialistic. How is that "free market"?

By your play...it's much like the playoffs. You play for a slot.

Except in the playoffs success is rewarded (capitalism). In the draft failure is rewarded so talent must be redistributed (socialism).

I think RJ is arguing that, contrary to our long-held beliefs, the draft doesn't reward losers. Or something like that.
