Will the socialistic NFL salary cap keep the Seahawks from being a dynasty?

You keep bringing up the government, and yet it has nothing to do with this at all. The salary cap is similar to some aspects of a socialist economic system, but this is not an economic system. There are many, many practices that make sense and work in the private sector that have no place being instituted and forced upon people by government. There is absolutely nothing ironic or hypocritical about supporting a salary cap in the NFL while at the same time supporting a free/capitalistic national economic system. Try again.

Most importantly, NFL owners are free to participate in your supposed "socialist" system, quit or start their own league. That's not socialism. That's freedom.

I agree. If you dump the salary cap model you are going to have the larger markets dominating the sport and fans in the lesser markets tuning out. I'm sure the billionaires rj refers to have done countless pro formas looking at it from every angle. If the salary cap were a barrier to greater profits it would have been gone a long time ago.

Revenue sharing is far more important than the salary cap in terms of keeping leagues competitive top to bottom. The salary cap does nothing but reduce labor costs.

IMO the "socialistic Big Brother" salary cap is what makes the NFL so great. It's an even playing field. Bad teams can become good in 3 years. It keeps more fans interested and makes for great parity during games.

AMen. It gives everybody a chance and keeps the big market teams like the Yankees & Dodgers in baseball from buying everything up. When it comes time next year the Seahawks will have to spend all their money on their salary cap to kep Russell Wilson, just like the ravens did with Flacco. The Broncos did with Manning. All the money goes to the QB in this league. The teams that win know how to find the mid-level $2-4 million guys to fill out the team.

Yep. Just ask La Liga in Spain.

Perhaps off topic, but I think the biggest risks to a Seattle "dynasty" are injuries and motivation.

It is just very hard to follow up a Super Bowl win with another Super Bowl win.

*Tougher schedule makes home field throughout playoffs tougher to achieve.
*1 and done playoff format means you can't have an off game (or even make a mistake in a close game).
*Such a physically demanding game... and takes 22+ players; all of whom must be 100% devoted to the cause.

Will they be good? Probably. But give me "the field" next year.

You guys are amazing. Free markets....keep the government out...but let the NFL be a socialistic dictatorship to protect idiot owners.

It's not socialistic to artificially supress payrolls in order to maximize profits. It's collusion, accepted by the players through negotiation.

Revenue sharing, on the other hand...

Agree with this. Also, the NFC West will be loaded next year. The 49ers were the 2nd best team in football. The Cardinals were playing as well as anyone at the end of the year (last team to beat Seattle; lost to the 49ers in OT, and otherwise dominated everyone else at the end of the year), and the Rams have a dominant defense and have the 2nd pick in the draft (thanks to the Redskins); Jeff Fisher is building a beast. Also, with Carroll, Harbaugh, Arians and Fisher, you have 4 really solid NFL coaches. So, getting out that division is going to be brutal next year, even with Seattle's deep young roster.

READ what I said. I didn't say DUMP the salary. I said make changes.
