2017 Atlanta Braves Thread: Acquired Brandon Phillips, Pitchers & Catchers rpt SOON

Just watched the Boni slide in the 7th which was upheld by review. Looks safe live and on replay. Thank goodness for Adonis.

Another amateur hour move for the FO having to rescind an overslot offer to the JUCO infielder who was said to be a tough sign because they miscalculated the numbers.

For a rebuilding team, the pitching seems to be ahead of schedule in regards to ERA, Quality starts, WHIP and BAA. They are all in the middle of the pack in the league. The offense though, is a colossal struggle in regards to runs, batting average, OBP, and slugging.

Saw the Giants play the last couple nights. They started Gregor Blanco and Ramiro Pena, and Cory Gearrin relieved. And they are comfortably in first place. Wild.

Apparently we have two solid position player prospects playing for the rookie GCL Braves. I believe they're both 17 from the DR. Derian Cruz a SS and Christian Pace an OF. Just some prospects to keep an eye on.

They are last year's J2 guys. Here are the guys we're favored to sign this year and their rankings at different outlets. Gutierrez has taken a bit of a tumble since this time last year but honestly they are all so young and you just to be happy we'll get the consensus best player and are committed to spending big in what will probably be the last year of this format.

Braves will open SunTrust Park on Thursday, April 13, 2017 against the Padres (first game of a four game series).

Braves vs Marlins on ESPN Sunday night baseball from Fort Bragg ought to be a cool scene. 12,500 seats in front of an all military crowd. I might have to tune in and watch the Bravos! I know this has to be a Haas, but just thought I would mention it for its coolness and since it is the first time done anywhere.

Bud Norris to the Dodgers. Haven't heard the return yet.

Braves give up Norris, Dian Toscano (outfielder at Mississippi), cash considerations and a player to be named. Braves acquire pitchers Phil Pfeifer and Caleb Dirks.

I'm assuming one of the players we received are decent prospects of we had to give up other players + cash.

"We get two young players who aren't far away that our scouts like and who put up great numbers," Braves general manager John Coppolella said. "We feel like we could see both guys [at the big league level] soon."
This deal provides somewhat of a homecoming for Dirks, who was traded by the Braves to the Dodgers for international bonus money around this same time last year. The 23-year-old right-hander posted a 1.44 ERA and recorded 35 strikeouts in 31 1/3 innings for Double-A Tulsa this year.
Pfeifer played with Braves top prospect Dansby Swanson at Vanderbilt before being selected by the Dodgers in the third round of the 2015 MLB Draft. The 23-year-old southpaw will have an opportunity to enhance the left-handed relief depth within Atlanta's system. He produced a 2.67 ERA and limited left-handed hitters to a .194 batting average while combining to complete 30 1/3 innings at the Class A and Class A Advanced levels this season.
While Dirks and Pfeifer might not profile as anything more than middle relievers at the big league level, the Braves certainly couldn't have envisioned gaining this return when Norris was removed from the rotation and sent to the bullpen with a 8.74 ERA at the end of April.

The Braves dumped a 27 year old AA player with 4yr/6mil contract (Toscano) and had to give the Dodgers some cash to offset. So it's probably more like getting 2 decent prospects and getting out of a bad contract in exchange for Norris & player TBD. Not a bad deal imo

We signed Omar Infante and are sending him to Single A. Always loved him but not sure why we did this, especially to send him all the way down to A ball.

Infante is coming off an injury and will play a few games in A ball then optioned to AAA Gwinnett within the month. He will be majors this year.
