Triad Pro-Am League - That just happened.

Looks like Chase will go up against LD tomorrow night in the second game. That will be a real test for the rookie.

If LD tries, Chase will be abused. A 23-24 yo man who is bigger and stronger, with pro expreience, should abuse an incoming freshman.

If y'all want, I will keep an eye on that matchup with the camera and put some off-ball stuff up so you can see how he moves without the ball.

TC and Chase have it hard because without Ty they have no big man . TC is pressing to do too much. When the real season arrives we need him to score less and play a smart game as a sound pg.

I'd love to see that matchup. I just have gut feeling Chase is going to be a lot better than most think. I think he may be that guy that all other fans hate.

I think Green's going to be better than most people think ... next year. In college hoops, you do not need to have any offensive game at the 5. Virginia for years has trotted out a center who can't score until they are a senior. As long as Green does not commit frosh fouls (a big if), and can score if nobody guards him (i.e., cut to the basket, have hands at minimum better than Kevin Swinton), he'll be a positive on the court.

Green should be right in Bzd's wheelhouse, I feel. He's a smart kid, a motivated kid who chose to play for Bzd. If Bzd can't get good minutes out of him when there a minutes that are desperate to be had, that is a bad sign, for me. Unless he's just a horrible defender, but I don't think he is. I think he's a good defender with fast feet and good lateral movement for a big.

Green and Fischer should see quality minutes from game 1. Both are needed.

jay, you are cracking me up. If Daniel plays the 5 , we are even in worst trouble than I think. The kid is as skinny as a twig.

From the few minutes of video I've seen, I do like how active Green seems to be out there. He's got good energy at least, something that's been lacking from our frontcourt.

Meh, he definitely needs to put some muscle on, but John Henson has been pretty successful playing the 4/5(every now and then) in the ACC despite being as skinny as a twig. It's about quickness/athleticism as much as it is about weight.

Daniel will probably have to log some minutes at the 5 this coming season if Tabb and Walker are gone. Who else is behind Carson? Nikita probably will as well.

Daniel is no John Henson. Both Carson and Daniel struggled against Guilford College so what can I tell you. We are going to get killed inside.

Haha, I'm not saying he is, just an example of someone ridiculously skinny being successful. Henson has an offensive game though, so that helps.

I don't think anyone is disputing that we are going to get killed inside either. But Green seems the second most likely candidate to get minutes at C behind Carson atm.

Well, we better be looking for another option pretty quick.

Because he has to be.

I think we're going to be pleasantly surprised. He's a shot blocker and scraps for rebounds.

But my point was more along the lines of - Green is a smart kid who keeps his feet moving. If Bzd gets nothing out of him next year, that's a tell for me. Bzd did wonders in Denver with about four guys that were the NBA version of Green: hustlers, if you will. Guys that brought energy. So, if he can't get Green to be a positive on the court next year in a similar way, even for 8-10 minutes, I am concerned about his college coaching abilities.

If Walker and Tabb are gone and I am going to assume they are, then Green is our backup center. For some reason, I am far more comfortable with that than if Green and Walker were gone and Tabb was our backup center.

To survive in the ACC this year, we're going to have to scrap for every rebound. Green is a scrapper. So is McKie. So is TC, I am hoping. Carson did not reveal himself to be much of a scrapper last year, so Green could actually prove to be crucial.

Call it a hunch. Because that is what it is. We need a scrapper in there trying to get rebounds. Nikita is one. McKie is probably our best rebounder. If Green can provide that for 8 to 20 minutes, awesome. He doesn't have to score. We also are going to need a guard fight for rebounds a la Jason Kidd. CJ and Terrell didn't really provide that last year so on the assumption they won't next year, that leaves TC. He has the physical and mental makeup for it, but you have to be able to anticipate where missed shots are going to be a good rebounding guard. We'll see.

I try to be objective about it, Chase looks like an impact player as a frosh. Daniel would normally be a redshirt candidate but I do like his nose for the ball and mental approach. However, his shot has way too much spin and has a pinball quality to it. Not good. Let's be fair to him and let him grow as a player over time.

We don't have that luxury. We need to use every tall body we have as we only have two.

If Bz' system emphasized getting rebounds, I'd agree with you. His teams are generally among the worst in the nation (~320) on the offensive boards and in the 200s on the defensive glass. I think Green's going to play based on his ability to defend and not be a liability on offense.

I am trying to give you firsthand reports on our players readiness to play in the real season. I will see how they look tonight before commenting further.

You are basically saying the exact same thing I said regarding Green with a rebounding dig at Bzd. Not surprised.

You said we need a scrapper who can get rebounds and a guard who will fight for rebounds.

I said that doesn't seem to fit our head coach's style. Feel free to disagree with that if you want.
