It can also be pretty uncomfortable for a real woman to walk into the women's room with someone who is clearly a dude dressed up like a chick. Again, so why does only the transgender's comfort matter? Why is the transgender's discomfort with being in the men's room a sympathetic cause, but the woman's discomfort with a transgender in the ladies' room backwards and bigoted? Why isn't the law designed so that doesn't have to happen either?

One of those situations involves discrimination, the other does not.

i'm all for seperate but equal bathrooms.

1 - hetero men (obviously we get the biggest and nicest)
2 - hetero women (clearly they need couches and stuff so they can nurse in the bathrooms so EVERYONE else does not have to be subjected to nature)
3 - gay men (don't want them pulling out their magnifying glasses and not wanting to look at my wang) they can have all the bathroom shenanigans they want. since, you know they do that kind of thing rather than pee in the bathroom.
4 - gay women similar to see #3. they also don't want to look at my wang.
5 - trans women (the scary ones born with a wang) good thing about them is when they use a women's bathroom that don't want to see your vagine so they aren't looking at you.
6 - trans men (the "normal" ones. who would not want to be a man in a man's world). can't blame em really. also, they aren't looking at your wang. they want vagine.
7 - family - so you can take your son and daughter in the same room easily. oops, this does not belong under the semi-pervy ones above. i'll change the order in my open letter to the nc gen assembly.
8 - poop bathrooms (i don't want to pee in public with someone leaving a deuce next to me). each group above needs separate bathrooms for 1 and 2.
69 - Pervs - let them perv up their own bathroom however they like.

quite certainly i'm missing something else. don't want anyone feeling awkward while they foul up a public restroom.

come to think of it we need the people that are policing for trans people to start enforcing the no dribble ordinance that i want instituted. your dribble, or worse, on the floor or seat and don't clean up you are barred from all public restrooms for ONE YEAR! don't think you ladies are exempt. some of the worst things i've ever seen in a bathroom happened in the women's room when i was bar tending.

Can we all at least acknowledge that there are a lot of gender neutral or unisex bathrooms in Europe?

It's not like we don't have a pretty good case study of what occurs in an environment where men, women, and everybody in between share bathrooms.

Honest question, as I have not traveled in Europe much - are these bathrooms generally one-person bathrooms? If multi-person bathrooms, are they generally stall only (no urinals)? Or what?

I assume there are not also unisex or gender neutral changing facilities and locker rooms in Europe? Or are there?

There's no way to make everyone comfortable in the bathroom because some people just aren't cool with/don't understand transgender people. So the question is who has to be uncomfortable: the transgender people or the people who haven't caught up to society. I think the answer is obvious.

When do the transgenders have to catch up to society and realize that not every dude/dude is out to get them? Because they were the ones who asked for the ordinance. Or does it only work one way?

The justification is they want to make money and they believe that remaining in NC is not conducive to their plan of maximizing the amount of money they can make.

Not much mental gymnastics required there at all. Made money by expanding brand to China (new market) and as far as I know the "entire country do[ing] business with the Middle East" doesn't really have much to do with what the NCAA/ACC decides to do.

Oh, so they are not taking a moral stand? I missed the financial reasons in the press release. What evidence do they have they would make less money in NC? Panthers stadium looked full last week. DBAP is gets good attendance among the baseball venues, and did well this past year. The alternate venues are smaller and farther away.

You know this is a moral decision and not a financial one. Be honest.

Who the hell feels like they belong in any public bathroom? It is generally not an enjoyable experience. My choice is that I "belong" in the bathroom with cleaner stalls and without piss on the seat and a floater left by Jerry the 300lb welder. So when do I get to exercise my "right" to use the bathroom that I feel most comfortable in and eschew the men's room for the ladies' room?

If you have two men who have the same body and are dressed the same....but one of them is a true transgender and the other is a voyeur (or predator) posing as a transgender....how can you tell the difference?

The answer is that you can't tell the difference. And that is the problem with allowing transgender males to use the girls' bathroom. If a person who is physically a male is allowed to use the girls' bathroom....and you cannot differentiate between a true transgender and a voyeur pretending to be a transgender by looking at them (and there is not going to be any monitoring going on after this change is allowed anyway)....there is no way to prevent voyeurs and/or predators from going into the girls' bathrooms.

The danger isn't from the true transgenders but from others who are taking advantage of a situation where any male can now go into the girls' bathroom pretending to be a transgender. And if people cannot see the potential problems with this situation they are blind. They far outweigh the small inconvenience of letting the true transgenders continue to use either a single occupancy bathroom or an enclosed stall in the men's bathroom.
