2017 NBA Draft thread - JC drafted 19th to Atlanta, OUR... Hawks?

I think everyone is significantly downplaying the upside of not being in the best draft in 20 years.

JC had two good decisions in front of him. He took the more certain path, hard to blame him for that (though it hasn't stopped people in the past).

Best draft in the last 20 years? I don't know about that.

Kris Dunn, Buddy Hield and Taurean Prince all went in the top 12 last year at age 22.

When there aren't a ton of guys with high upside, teams turn to players that produce on a big stage in college.

Of the guys that came back that were ranked ahead of Collins, how many were there based on potential? Those are the guys who have to worry about dropping next year.

Last years draft absolutely sucked.

folks, just remember that DCDeac defended [Redacted] for a long time with his typical arrogant condescension

I mean look back at the 08 and 09 drafts. In 08 you had Rose (who prior to the injuries was a damn good player), love, Westbrook , Brook Lopez and to a lesser degree Gallo and Eric Gordon in the top 10.

In 09 you had Griffin, Harden , Curry and derozan going in the top 10 and to a lesser degree, Rubio and tyreke Evans.

I mean its not that out there when the dude picked at #11 dropped 47 on the national champs as a freshman.

Who cares, Jodie Meeks dropped 54 in a college game. Not saying Monk will end up like Meeks but 47 pts on UNC isn't the end all be all.

Ok, these are good points. At least 1 of the tall white guys is gonna be a bust. Fultz may be as well, and then two are prolly gonna start drinking too much.

Heck go back to the lebron draft in 03, you had lebron, mello , bosh and Wade all in the top 10.

pretty sure the 2014 NBA draft was more hyped than this one and it has generally disappointed... some due to injury, some not

projecting drafts a year ahead isn't easy, and it's not even like 2018 looks super weak or anything. looking at next year, Luka Doncic and Michael Porter both seem like legit #1 talents at the moment, and Ayton and Bamba are both probably going to be better big man prospects than this entire draft had. then ofc there will be a bunch of dudes who most of us don't know much about now, 5-star or not, who may kill it and shoot up boards and make the draft hyped again.

And the end of that first round had Howard, Barbosa, and Perkins.

There are a couple recent drafts where like 70% of the top is making $10 mil/yr now.

He went about where expected. His range was probably 14-22. I believe that if he improved as much as you and others (and I) think he is going to that his range next year would have been 8-14.

I'd be making the same arguments if he went to the Heat because y'all would be making the same stupid arguments to prove how "right" you were about how "right" JC's decision was.

We've given the pluses for going and the potential minuses for staying. But you reject all of them. As usual only your position is good.

Per JC's own words near the end of the season it was a choice of going to the NBA vs having his number in the rafters in the Joel. For him I doubt his decision was about if he could move up in the draft next year, but is was about whether taking the money was worth giving up his legacy at WFU.

The reason John Collins decision to enter the draft was the best decision is simple. He made it. The result of his decision will earn him more money than most, if not all, of those discussing that decision on this thread and others like it.

Congratulations John. Your hard work and dedication paid off. Thanks for the manner in which you represented WFU and the pleasure of watching your progress. All the best in your future endeavors.

Not one guy has played an NBA minute and your claiming it to be the best in 20 years.

Well in the context of deciding which draft you would rather be in as a player, perceived strength is all that matters. Depending on who you talk to there are between 8-10 consensus potential all stars in this draft. It's perceived to be the strongest in the past 20 years.

There have certainly been drafts that were better 1-4 (I'm talking four best players from
That draft, not draft position), but not 1-10.

If I'm JC I'd rather be in the draft with 4 sure fire hall of famers and a bunch of scrubs than a draft with 10 or so guys nearly everyone agrees are all star caliber players.
