WFU Hoops: '23-'24 Roster Construction Thread: +Miller, Sallis, Reid, & Canka

Agreed, but most players at least attempt to do something other than score on open lobs. He's elite at that, but extrapolating that into him being a superior offensive player is silly
I didn't say he's a superior offensive player, I said there's plenty to criticize him for and that him making layups and dunks at a high level isn't one of them. His efficiency and usage numbers speak for themselves pretty clearly here IMO as to what's going on: highly efficient in very low usage

marsh is fine and keller is fine

getting another big in the portal is not a knock on those guys. even if one of them turned into tim duncan, our highest priority would still be getting one more frontcourt player for depth.
Yep. If they improve and they're good enough, they'll get their minutes. If they're not good enough, they won't, and it'll be a good thing we added depth. But we're talking about two guys who combined to average about 8p/6r/1a/0.3b in ~29 mpg last year.

reading through some Gonzaga boards, and sounds like they all generally like Sallis

if he can improve his jumper, he could be another all-acc level player for us out of the portal

Offensive rating can be a massively skewed stat over small sample sizes and particularly for post players. Despite playing a full year, it's a small sample size for Marsh. He didn't even attempt enough FGs for his FG% to count in the record books as a valid FG%.
I'd be curious to know how many shots Marsh attempted that were not dunks. I don't remember many.

Is Wake looking at Efton Reid?

ETA: He was teamates with Sallis at Gonzaga and is listed as a C. In the portal since 4/4. Supposedly VCU is in the mix.

He's got a good base set and seems to be fundamentally sound. We can build on that for sure. Seems to have the talent level as well. This is an excellent get

Have there been any new names of bigs mentioned? Feel like I saw us listed in a super long list for Naheem McLeod and Jamarion Sharpe, but that's about it lately.

Great get re: Sallis.

There is a significant difference between “pushing a player out”, as one poster claims to know the staff is trying/planning to do, and keeping all recruiting options open while there are contingencies regarding injury, early exit, etc.

I’m excited to see how Sallis can develop here, but it seems like a lot of posters are responding as if we just landed a 5* Freshman, when Sallis is an incoming Junior with 300 career points. Has something at Gonzaga prevented him from reaching his potential so far?

I think he wast just behind Rasir Bolton (who had more experience in the system) and Hickman (who was another 5 star recruit)

Gonzaga was also running their offense through Holmgren and Timme while he was there, right?

Alondes Williams only had 347 points at Oklahoma and was only a 3* recruit for OU.

The thing preventing our former transfers from reaching their potential? Not playing for Steve Forbes.

Wake Forest and Forbes have turned solid transfers into pro prospects more often than not.

There are over 3,000 D1 college basketball players. Matthew Marsh was #1 in the nation in 2 PT FG% and in O rating. To claim he didn't improve last season is asinine.

He's 7-1 250, can run and can jump. Yes, his basketball instincts are lacking, and his defense was poor, but this isn't Davion Bradford, Marsh has skills that the staff can work with. You can hate on Marsh all day long, but he will play a role in 2024.
Thanks, Pilch. I am still optimistic Marsh is going to continue to develop and be solid. It is telling that Forbes was looking for help in the post if he could get it but also seems to be willing to spend the last 'ship on a BPA/guard.
