2016 College football thread

O$U's O line diskapeears and they fall in Happy Valley.

Still prolly gonna make the playoff if they win out, but margin of error le gone

If they make the playoff, Clemson, Washington, and Louisville better lose 2 times this year. This PSU team blows. I do not know how they lost to them.

It may mean they have to play Alabama in the first semi, which is no small development. We'll know more after Washington and Clemp face their toughest remaining tests next week

Washington State will be a tough matchup to close the season. Every year the public massively underrates the likelihood of losses to the top 5 teams. Would love to take the bet that no more than two of Bama, Clemson, Michigan and Washington will finish unbeaten before the BCS playoffs and wouldn't be shocked if there are no unbeaten teams heading into the BCS.

854 yards given up by both OU and Tech tonight. Unreal.

Yeah, good calls here. Wash. State game very well could decide their division so that's prolly the biggest one on further reflection

Exactly. Ohio State should not make it in over a one loss Louisville team for sure. If Ohio State knocks the shit out of Michigan then the Big Ten should be left out all together in favor of Clemson and Louisville. Not that that will happen. Adjusting for home field advantage, the Louisville Clemson game was in effect a tie between two top 5 teams. It should not hurt Louisville as much as this Penn State game should hurt Ohio State

Agree with all of this. After last night, lsu and auburn look like tough games for bama. Michigan still has to beat osu and neb/wisc in big10cg. Clemson will lose to either fsu or vt in the acccg if they play the way they've been playing. And Washington still has Utah next week, wsu, and Utah/Colorado in p12cg.

Biggest thing is that the committee will heavily weight conference champions. So Louisville losing to Clemson isn't nearly as bad a loss as osu losing to psu, but it's much more costly to playoff odds because it's almost certainly keeping them out of the acccg. In that same line, bama and Washington can lose to lsu and Utah and still be fine but not to auburn and wsu.

Edit: actually strike that about bama. Lsu and auburn both have only one conference loss so a win by either of them over bama leaves bama needing help to get to seccg

A one loss Ohio State team that is the Big 10 champion is not getting left out over Louisville. The Cards best win is over a good but not great Florida State team. Ohio State dismantled Oklahoma (likely Big 12 champ) on the road. They beat a Top 10 Wisconsin team on the road. They will have another win over a Top 10 (for now) Nebraska team and a win over what is likely a top 3 Michigan team to go with another win in the BIG championship game (Nebraska or Wisconsin).

Ohio State loses another game and then you can kick dirt on them.

Agree with your first sentence, but based on last week, seems unlikely they get through Nebraska, Michigan, and the Big10CG without another loss.

Once again, Houston really hurts Louisville's chances.

Vols will sneak in with a an SECCG revenge win against Bama. Bama will be left out once they lose to Auburn and Vols. 10-2 SEC Champ Tennessee rolls on.

And A&M is a lot better than that trash heap of a team there in Austin.
Nice dude! Yeah, agreed about Texas -- I'm not really a fan at all. I only like to watch good football like my Deacs.

Big day on Tuesday with the initial rankings coming out, being led up to with all the college playoff contenders basically on the road this weekend--TITANTIC! something will happen to shake things up:

6-1 Louisville @ UVA--not likely to happen here
6-0 WVA @ OK St--great chance
7-0 Michigan @ Mich St--not likely but who knows
6-0 Baylor @ Texas--not likely but Strong's last stand?
5-1 Florida vs UGa--cocktail game in Jacksonville
7-0 Washington @ 7-1 Utah--ESPN Game Day--but on FS1 instead of Fox like WVS/OK St
7-0 Clemson @ a rested FSU--likely fireworks
7-0 Nebraska @ 5-2 Wisconsin--huge for the Big Ten west
7-0 Boise St @ 5-2 Wyoming--huge for Boise's New Year's bowl hopes
Ohio St just took it on the chin @ Penn St & both LSU and Alabama rest up for their big game in the Bayou next weekend

If Florida is going to make the list of "college playoff contenders", then the list needs to be longer than 8. They have beaten absolutely no one: Vandy or Missouri is their best win, and Tennessee beat the Gators by 10. It's truly remarkable how horrible the SEC East is. IIRC, Kentucky's win over Miss. State last week was the SEC East's first win over an SEC West team.

Lots of things would have to happen of course, but if [big "IF"] Florida were to run the table AND beat Bama in the SECCG, there is a better than even chance they are in. That said, they are 16 in Sagarin, WVa is 15 & Baylor is 14 [also long shots who have not gotten to the meat of their schedule]. These are all also possible teams that have to do a lot to get there. Those are just a myriad of the possibilities that still exist as this all shakes out. But you give Florida wins at LSU & at FSU to end the season, plus beat Alabama somehow in the SECCG, your myth is totally blown Pilch.

Doubt they lose to a UGa team that has looked wholly unimpressive basically all year. But crazier things have happened

There are a lot of teams that could get in if they run the table, and have a much better chance to do it than Florida. Hard to believe that Gus Malzhan may have been a replay reversal away from getting fired, and now Auburn has a potential path to the BCS playoff as they control their own destiny in the SEC.

LOL at "BCS playoff". If that was intentional, well done sir.
