Wake Baseball 2018

Here's a question I've been pondering. Will Johnny Baseball Aiello go pro after this year or come back for a senior season? He was a pre-season All-American but hasn't had the season he's wanted. Still played well with the glove, but not as much with the bat, mostly due to being thrown a bunch of off speed stuff. Will he come back to try to improve his stock or go pro? Either way, he's been a heckuva Diamond Deac.

Griffin Roberts named All-ACC 2nd team. No other Diamond Deacs made an all-ACC team. Surprisingly, no WF freshman made the all-freshman team. Would think that Seymour, Muntz and Lanzilli all would've gotten consideration.

Any of you guys with the time/energy willing to post some stats for the guys that made the all-freshman team and compare them to our guys?
Seems to be some angst about our guys being excluded, but I don't follow closely enough to know if it's warranted..

All Freshmen team consists of two SS and 1 OF. Don’t know how they rank these guys but obviously they don’t fill every position on the field. I don’t see how Lanzilli was left off and others on team must have been close. Maybe this will serve as additional incentive for them next year.

Here is one comparison:

Pitt's Ron Washington Jr. (yes, he's the son of the former Rangers manager) was named to both 3rd team All ACC and to the all freshman team as a DH-OF.

Washington's numbers: .278 AVG 5 HRs 30 RBI .412 SLG .321 OBP

Lanzilli: .278 AVG 9 HRs 33 RBI .549 SLG .389 OBP

Seymour .289 AVG 7 HRs 30 RBI .446 SLG .346 OBP

Got believe that Lanzilli's 9 HRs as a freshman are among the top 3 in the ACC for a frosh.

Also, WF had a better ACC record than Pitt 11-19; WF 13-17.

FWIW, UVA had a first team All-ACC player; a third team All-ACC player, and two All Freshman team players. WF had a better conference record than UVA.

first pitch vs. UL in 15 minutes

Reid Detmers, 6-2 lefty gets the start for UL - he was not a weekend starter when the Deacs took 2 of 3 earlier this year; however he did start and get the win vs. #6 Kentucky (4.2 IP) and again vs. #15 Vandy (5.1 IP) in the last 5 weeks of the season

Detmers also pitched well vs. #19 Indiana last week, going into the 7th allowing one run - no decision for him in a UL loss

At least we got one. That called third strike looked a little inside.
