Has the #buzzout movement been struck a fatal blow?

I'm guessing 6 ACC wins and it's a tossup. Seven ACC wins, he's back 100%. Under six and it should be buh bye.

I hope nobody believes the decision will be based on the exact number of wins. No way will Wellman decide to extend/fire the coach based on whether Tyler can make a layup @ Va Tech. Either the program continues the downward trend & he accepts his mistake or someway/somehow the team continues to play w/ the passion they had in the 2nd half Tuesday & ends up bringing excitement back to the program to a point where RW doesn't have to admit to shit & gets to keep his boy another season.

[Redacted] will be back next year and there is nothing we can do about it. The quicker we accept this, the better it will be for our own mental health.

I will give credit to the coaching staff and bzz for what was probably the best game of the bzz era at wake. i will also say the team has been much more fun to watch over the last few weeks and it looks like maybe they are starting to turn things around. however, with such a down year in the acc and an absolute embarrassment of an out of conference schedule it's really had to tell if the team is becoming respectable or just the best terrible team on their own schedule but then again i'm still #BuzzOut and #WellmanOut

The ACC isn't even really down this year. Carolina is down, and there's no FSU at the top either, which always hurts the perception. But the league is as good top-to-bottom as it has been in the last 2-3 years. And it's the 3rd or 4th best conference in the country this year, as the Pac-12 and SEC are downright dreadful, and the Big 12 has nothing beyond Kansas in terms of top 4 NCAA seeds. The overall talent level in college basketball is slightly lower than last year, as last year was loaded due to the NBA lockout the prior year. But on the whole, this is probably equal to two and three years ago and I'd call this the new normal for college basketball.

We definitely are better than the last two years, as our own talent level, however raw some of it is, is greatly higher than the last two years. Our offense has looked fantastic in small stretches, such as when we destroyed State's zone from the short corner. Props for that.

However, the current roster, minus CJ and Travis (since they'll be gone in two years) is likely not good enough to make a Sweet 16 run in 14-15 barring some crazy progression beyond what could be reasonably expected. And I worry about how [Redacted] will handle both adversity and prosperity. We've seen how adversity goes, and his Air Force teams couldn't handle prosperity. We need more consistency, which needs to be derived from our coach, in order for the program to make the leap to where we all expect to go. A coach in his 8th year of a second stint in college basketball should have shown that ability by this point. He hasn't, while simultaneously displaying all the signs of incompetence possible. That's the worry, in spite of our young team showing growth and flashes of fun basketball for the first time in three years.

Whatever PR firm that is advising Wellman has really missed the boat. However, the one thing they have accomplished is to set the bar so low that even Bz might get there. It is hard to believe that we as fans will have to endure more than three seasons of the longest rebuilding project in modern basketball history.

I disagree. There has to be a clear trajectory of improvement. We had 13 wins last year. I do think we need to be a .500 team end of year or real close. I think you would probably be right except for the mass exodus of players after last year. That forced Wellman's hand. If Carson is still here we probably don't have a win quota just improvement

That's down in my opinion. The ACC is about to get an influx of talent and more importantly, coaching. I'm not convinced Bz has what it takes to hang with them.

College Basketball sucks this year. Really a shame we have such a shitty coach. This is the season where a 7-10 seed could make a deep run.

Compared with the stretch from 1993 through 2005, and one year in 2009, it's down. That's fair. But it's not when comparing to the last two years if you're comparing our conference record and looking for growth from the absolute pits we had fallen to. Improvement has undoubtedly taken place from the last two years (to say it hasn't shows you haven't watched the games or more likely are just being too stubborn to admit it), but we're still worse than we were even in our 3-13 and 4-12 '06 and '07 seasons, so it doesn't mean much.

I'm not at all convinced Bz can hang with Boeheim, Pitino, Brey, and Dixon. It's downright scary to imagine us trying to match up with [Redacted] as these teams come in.

I think there has to be a trajectory between this year and next, especially OOC, but not this year. We could lose the rest of the games and nothing would happen.

I think you are underestimating the pressure Wellman has been or would be under. Don't think he'd risk losing his own job over it either.

You guys trip me out. He's not going anywhere regardless of what happens. Years 1 and 2 are H2O under the bridge.

Wellman's prideful stubborn ass can go down with the ship. Wake sucks at every fucking sport now. Mens & Womens Basketball: Pathetic, Football: Terrible, Baseball: Bad, Mens Soccer: meh, Womens Fieldhockey: meh, Track & Field: Shitty

Our athletics program is completely in the shitter, it's sad that no one in control gives a shit.

I was referring to the bold. I was talking about the ACC. The ACC is down. It's not the best league. It's 3rd or 4th. It's down compared to the past. It's down compared to a future with 4 coaches who will enter as 4 of the top half of coaches in the league.

Continue to agree one game does not make a season. How we follow this win up in Atlanta is more of an indication of where we are. Road game, in Atlanta were we always struggle, against the last place ACC team.

Win @ GT, and we are 4-3, playing dook who likely is 4-2. Think about it.

I can see jaybone's point of kids tuning out bzz. I think in the last two years, for whatever reason, the kids were clueless on what bzz was trying to do. Certainly, they were not recruited to play in Bzz offense (i.e. Ari, JTT, Carson, TC etc). The current frosh seem to understand and be absorbing what Bzz wants them to do (see the zone offense), if they run the offense and get easy baskets, that might be the only connection bzz needs with the kids. Do the x's and o's I teach you and you will score a lot. Fairly attractive for the kids then.

Whole bunch of talk several pages back about frosh improving. Looking at the whole season where the frosh have been asked to play big roles from day one I see it this way. Devin, CMM, Moto and Jones have all played with much more maturity than the average freshman. Tree has been an impact player at the very least. Cav probably is playing more like you expect a freshman to play when tossed into the fire. So either Bzz recruited much better or he's prepared them better than most freshmen around the country.

We can all debate how much a freshman should improve from game 1 to game 15, but almost no way you can say Devin is on a natural progression. He's either been coached up or was a great recruiting find. And all I have to say is that many experts here said Devin was a foul machine and would have trouble staying on the court. I'm assuming they didn't just make that up. So what gives? Coaching?

I don't know if RW has a 'win' number, but anyone that thinks 8-10 in the ACC is getting Bzz fired is deluded, especially with a marquee win.

Whether Wellman likes it or not, his job is forever linked to Bzzz. I do think Wellman will lose his job over this fiasco. He knows this. That is why he is hanging on to a glimmer of hope that Bzzz turns this around. That is why he is spinning the improvement bullshit. But why is everyone still talking about improvement. Everyone keeps forgetting that we shouldn't be in the shit mess to begin with. Fire them both.

He may really believe that Jeff [Redacted] is the man for the job.

That we be sad if so. Gotta be tough for a man who is on the tourney committee whose own damn team can't make it with the coach of his choice.
