I shall never understand people that don't love dogs.

He's awesome :)

Good thing my car still smells like diarrhea.

This happened to me as well. driving on a road trip and she is in the back. She starts pacing and panting and then assplosion. She did not want to sit in it, so she jumped up front and got that seat as well. We had to pull into a gas station and detox the car for an hour or so. Sold that piece soon thereafter (the car, not the doggy).

This is why you have to Mitt Romney-Ride those bitches.

Yeah I'm looking into how much it'd cost to have the seats redone as I'm not at a point in life to buy a new car. I mean, this car still smells like the diarrhea is sitting in the front seat. I have 6 NEW air freshners in now, and am about to go up to the car wash again.

what do yall use to stop barking? they only bark outside, and as much as it annoys me, I can only imagine how much it annoys the neighbors. Any help?

I debated not doing anything about this with my dogs for the longest time. I finally broke down at the beach last week because our house is right on a public beach access and they are constantly barking at people coming and going. I got one of these, and it works great on them.

Within seconds, they got the point and were able to actually relax outside instead of being on ready alert.

Dhtoy's dad came to hang out tonight, and it was clear my dog just didn't like him. We finally thought they were doing ok, and then completely out of nowhere, caddie turned and bit him in the face. It broke the skin, although not deep. Bleeding, but just barely (he's on blood thinners thanks to a heart attack last year. If not for the blood thinners, I doubt he would have bled). What would you do in this situation? This has never happened before. She's got quite a bark, but has never bit anyone, and when she's uncomfortable, there's typically warning signs. But tonight there were none. Truly went from him petting her to her biting him. Would you consider putting her down? Additional training? Or just discipline her and move on?

Ugh, I hate that for you guys. Our dogs are all bark and no bite thankfully. Maybe explain the situation to your vet and get their recommendations? I wouldn't put the dog down after one bite though. Who knows what spooked the dog.

Yeesh that suck Hoops. I definitely wouldn't think about putting the dog down if this is the first time she's ever bitten somebody.

We had something similar happen yesterday with Sherman. The neighbors have some very young children and they were all out playing, riding bikes, etc. Sherman was sleeping, not looking at the street, in the backyard. He has always barked at you if you're wearing a bike helmet for some reason. Just gives him the spookes. So the littlest girl out the them all decided to run down, creep up on Sherman, and it startled him. Because he was scared & the girl was wearing a bike helmet he "bit" her. So they took her to the ER. Literally all they did was wash it & put a bandaid on it. No stitches or the like. So now we're expecting a hefty bill from the ER we're a little iffy on whether we should pay it. Reason being is that the dog was minding his business & didn't aggressively go after the child. The kid scared Sherman, on our property, and got nipped (which i still find isn't the right word).

If he's up for it, I would work with him and a trainer. If there is a particular positive stimulus that she likes, get her to associate him with that. I definitely wouldn't put her down. Not that this describes your future FIL in any way, but Booger has had similar reactions to Mrs. DF07's aunt. She is a legitimate crazy person, and creeps me the fuck out. The big thing for you guys is not being anxious when he is around her. She will pick up on that, and it could encourage whatever she has going on.

On a more positive note of dogs acting differently with different people, Deacon has always been pretty excitable. He's a not a big dog, per se, but he is solid and does jump on people some times. My brother has CP, so it's hard for him to control his arms and muscles in general. Booger will accommodate just about anyone who wants to pet him or give him physical attention, but Deacon ain't got time for dat. I have noticed that if my bro tries to pet him, he will chill out just a little more than usual for him. It's kind of cool.

thanks for the thoughts guys. i really started crying the instant dhtoy's dad left (which was really fast after the bite. he seemed legitimately scared, and that's part of what upset me), and didn't stop for a solid hour. i think what scares me the most is the thought that next time, it could be a kid. not really sure what to do next, but i hope the discipline last night helped a bit.

You gotta be careful with your anxiety. Dogs will pick up on that without appreciating what you are anxious about which can make it worse.

Has she ever had problems with aggression towards people before or just dhtoypops? It's not fair to the dog to treat it differently from an isolated incident.

i mean, we were all just sitting around laughing and talking. there was no anxiety.

and she's not always the nicest dog. she definitely takes a few minutes to warm up to people, and until she does, she will bark nonstop. but typically once she's warmed up and stopped barking, she's your new best friend. we thought she had gotten to that point with dhtoy's dad. she was just chilling sitting there and letting him pet her.
