J Harris Gets The Waiver

Josh Harris and Josh Adams, if you are reading this board thanks for what you have contributed to Wake. You both deserved better.

Both these guys had great first years, so it wasnt like wake had raw talent to develop. I dont care what anyone says, this is on the coaches. Their job is to keep kids eligible. That is what they are paid to do.

I saw Harris pop two amazing runs against Va Tech, that was no fluke. It has been a long time since a running back has improved year to year at Wake. Wake has just become the fun sucker. Does anything positive happen there anymore. It is easier the overlook some things if any of the news is ever good. But these days pretty much all news from the Athletic Department sucks. This news is just one more turd on the pile that is the Wellman dynasty. Glad I took a year off my tickets and deacon club.

So thank you Josh Harris, even if you never play another down at Wake. Dont let the wellMAN get you down.

please explain how the athletic department failed to do their part to keep him eligible.

This is so ridiculous. How can we not regulate these things with a 5th year senior? Our athletics dept. is such a joke. There are prolly 20 courses I can think of off the top of my head he could have taken to get easy credits. Hell, his twitter account should count for some type of credit or independent study as much as he posts.

Maybe if he'd stayed off Twitter, he might have passed more classes.

It's Josh Harris's fault. Case closed. 84 other guys didn't screw up.

Not to sound ignorant but don't we probably have numerous people who are paid to watch out for such eligibility issues? If Josh failed classes than it is on him but if it was a credits thing than I have questions about those folks looking out for the athletes.

Every freaking year we have something like this it seems. Maybe every other team has these things too, since I don't really pay that much attention to any other program as far as knowing who's ineligible and stuff. This freaking blows, I had a feeling Harris was going to have a good season, but I guess that feeling was just a bad burrito I ate or something. Way to go Josh, what a freaking waste of ability!!!!

I happen to be in Kentucky and saw in the paper where Kentucky Wesleyan's (I believe D2) basketball team just lost a rising sophomore so that he can spend more time with his newborn daughter. I suspect that every school and every team has all the problems with 18 - 22 year olds that every other aspect of society sees. My personal feeling is that all young people become better adults if they are given choices and allowed to experience the consequences (good and bad) of the choices they make. Hopefully, Josh Harris will learn from his choices and have a great life off of the football field.

I'm assuming there's still some bit of doubt, or at least dome lack of confirmation, to this since BSD hasn't put anything out on it?

I like Josh a lot. I think he had the ability to be great. I think he's a bright young guy. But...none of this is anyone's fault but his own.

Did he fail classes or not take enough credits?

Would this have happened at any decent football school? No. I'm tired of the high and mighty, we are the great white hope bullshit. Make sure your key players stay eligible, using any legal means necessary.

@JoshHarris25: Jus had crab for the first time. Da lawd is good.

At least he's eating well.

Uh players become ineligible for all kinds of reasons including academics at football factories all the time. Their fans just do not act like it is a death blow because they have better depth.

Quick internet search reveals four players ineligible last season at LSU and I suspect I could find an example in the last 5-10 years for any school you can name.

I heard of an athlete at Wake who was flunking his foriegn language class his first semester. He dropped it and fell below the minimun credit requirement, which made him ineligable. But it kept him from getting thrown out of school for a Blutarsky-esque GPA. He made the Dean list in the spring and graduated on schedule. Maybe Josh did the same?

These young men are not simply tools for our amusement on athletic fields. Like anyone else, they are forming their identities and preparing for the rest of their lives. Creating a false environment of success for them in the classroom cruelly commoditizes their lives for four or five years in a way that is not in their best interest.

College football is a product, like it or not, and a very good one at that. Also, the idea that cutting Josh Harris' football career short will somehow benefit him in the long run is one that I completely disagree with.
