I'm at the summer league sitting next to Spurs GM RC Buford and other Spurs brass. Out of nowhere, they mentioned Jeff [Redacted]. I piped in, saying that I had just graduated from Wake and that [Redacted] has been catching a lot of heat in Winston-Salem, to say the least.

They responded by saying, "That's a shame. He's a really great coach. One of the smartest guys in the college game," and proceeded to sing his praises for a couple more minutes.

Surprising stuff.

How does the smartest coach of all-time not have an NBA gig?

It was posted once that Bz just didn't much feel like going back to the NBA game, for one reason or another.

Honestly, if [Redacted] was fired tomorrow he'd probably be able to find an NBA assistant gig if that's what he wanted. Connections go a long way, and people at the NBA level seem to think highly of his x's and o's pedigree. That's really the ideal situation for him: don't recruit, don't talk to media, and generally ply your trade in the video room and on a whiteboard.

Please let them hire him. Please, please, please! Oh happy days! Why did you have to get my hopes up dalbert. Let's say we lose the first four games of the season- any chance they'd take him off our hands?

I think he has a good basketball mind, I just think he's so bad with people that it's completely overshadowed.

Yeah, evidence points to the fact that Bz is a great NBA assistant/scout. He's just a shitty college basketball coach. They're two different jobs.

I don't think he does. Our offense dribbles around for 30 seconds, clanks one off the rim and we seldom, if ever, have ANYONE in rebounding position.
Our defense is just God-awful in most games.

Not sure where this idea of a "brilliant X and 0" coach originated. I've yet to see it.

C'mon Buford, make Buzz the highest paid NBA scout of all-time.

There aren't very many coaches/advance scouts in the NBA that have bad basketball minds.

I mean, when you think great basketball minds you obv think Jeff [Redacted]. C'mon. No surprise here.

All that's teaching related. I believe [Redacted] really does tell players the rights things to do, he just doesn't do so effectively and, as such, they don't do them.

I am sure [Redacted] knows a great deal about basketball. I am also sure that he is an absolutely lousy college head coach. Not only that, but most GMs don't seem to think much of his NBA head coaching ability either. Otherwise he would have gotten a NBA job sooner and would have also gotten a second shot at one after leaving the Nuggets (I don't buy for a second that he would rather coach in college than in the NBA. The latter seems like a much better fit for his personality).

Teaching and knowing are two very different things.

I doubt these NBA guys are just spouting these statements off unprovoked if they are not true. Why would R.C. Buford do that surrounded by guys that he knows have no ties/affiliations to Wake?

Thanks for the lecture. Obviously, he's a genius. I stand corrected.

It wasn't a lecture and I didn't say he was a genius.

Do you think that R.C. Buford was lying about it? No doubt he is a poor excuse for a college head coach, but NBA guys wouldn't just make that stuff up out of thin air would they?

Maybe it's a whole big conspiracy against Wake Forest fans.
