Spurs Love [Redacted]

I'm at the summer league sitting next to Spurs GM RC Buford and other Spurs brass. Out of nowhere, they mentioned Jeff [Redacted]. I piped in, saying that I had just graduated from Wake and that [Redacted] has been catching a lot of heat in Winston-Salem, to say the least.

They responded by saying, "That's a shame. He's a really great coach. One of the smartest guys in the college game," and proceeded to sing his praises for a couple more minutes.

Surprising stuff.

It wasn't a lecture and I didn't say he was a genius.

Do you think that R.C. Buford was lying about it? No doubt he is a poor excuse for a college head coach, but NBA guys wouldn't just make that stuff up out of thin air would they?

Maybe it's a whole big conspiracy against Wake Forest fans.

The whole world is trolling us.

Didn't Pop's assistants just bail for head coaching jobs? How funny would it be if Tim closed out his career with Bzz on his sideline? I think that would be worse than JJ Redick as a CP3 tag-along.

Teaching and knowing are two very different things.

I doubt these NBA guys are just spouting these statements off unprovoked if they are not true. Why would R.C. Buford do that surrounded by guys that he knows have no ties/affiliations to Wake?

So, [Redacted] has this vast knowledge of how to win trapped deep inside of him (knowledge), but just can't translate it to teaching?

These NBA scouts realize that Buzz has basketball powers beyond our level of understanding.

That about it? We have a genius trapped inside of an idiot's body?

Btw, as a person who invests my money often in people and companies, I'll let one cat out of the bag. I've heard this line at least a 1,000 times before. And about 99.99% of the time, it's complete crap.

Ok, you're right.

They've already replaced Budenholzer, but Brett Brown interviewed with the 76ers, who still haven't hired anyone.

What would be most delightful is if the 76ers hired Brett Brown and then the OP's comments make Buford think [Redacted] is attainable for the freed up spot.

You should have told them that your name was Paul Kennedy and that you are a close friend of Jeff's. Also, added that Jeff is miserable at Wake and is looking for a move back to the league. The icing on th cake would have been if you'd have told him that Jeff better knows you by your nickname, DV7, and to let him know that you gave the reference when he calls.

Yes, if you've ever met him you would understand this

That's not what they said at all, they said he's one of the smartest in the college game. Again, this would mean he's having trouble getting it across to the players - which is pretty obvious.

That about it? We have a genius trapped inside of an idiot's body?

No, you're just being obtuse.

Great to hear

Thanks for your time.

I agree that Bz knows the game but does not teach it very well. During practice, he spends too much time talking and too little time breaking the skills down into components and working on repetition-based execution. Remember how often he would say after another bad loss that he told the players something and they didnt execute ... "just ask them"? That was often true. He would talk about it in practice, but they did not physically repeat it sufficiently to the point where they could successfully execute it in game situations against top-flight opposition on a consistent basis. This short-coming is especially problematic with a young team, which we have managed to have every year of the Bz era. Finally, I agree that most folks who have interacted with the man on a one-on-one basis find him to be a very socially awkward individual.

Weird that he could only be great at Air Force.

bzzzz trained under pat riley, so the two nba finals franchises both LOVE the bzzman.

well, i guess nobody's perfect.

W wet body says this about bzd so it must be somewhat true. Everyone posts his numbers and I understand why but this really was his first job at an institution w pedigree. The nuggets were downtrodden when he got hired. Kiki fucking vandewedge was te GM. Kiki. It as why I was excited about the hire.

Everyone now takes as gospel that wellman hired bzd because they were old buddies but more than likely it was his basketball reputation plus his integrity that made wellman believe he could make a head scratcher hire of a guy who wasn't young and hit a homerun.

On the bright side we have a collection of good to vet good players w at least 1 year experience. Put up or go away year
