Moving to Charlotte in a year

When was that lease signed? That's cheap. You can occasionally find landlords in this old neighborhoods who don't really pay attention to the market and are just happy to cover their costs.

This.

I see Dilworth and I assume it will be 25 to 50 percent more than the equivalent on my side of town.

I sold my sweet pad in dilworth last year and I miss it. it's gonna be worth a fortune by the time i move back

January. I got pretty lucky - it's the Dilworth Edge neighborhood right where Kenilworth/Scott turn into Park. They look like a dump from the street.

It's somewhat close. The Historic West End is mostly made of of Wesley Heights, Biddleville, Seversville and Smallwood neighborhoods. It's "anchored" by Johnson C. Smith at the top of the hill.

If you look at a map, it's basically everything past Gateway in Uptown. The neighborhoods inside of the box formed by 77, Brookshire, 85 and Freedom. It includes Gateway and the neighborhoods Northwest of Graham depending on who you talk to.
Nice. One of my buddies moved to Wesley Heights w/ his gf a few months ago. They eat at Pinky's at least twice a week.

How do you mean?

West End is the neighborhood I was talking about driving through daily. The line of houses that back up to that garbage dump /recycling center or whatever the hell it is down in that pit. There are some really nice recently remodeled houses along there, but there is some complete shit as well. I think there was a thought that it would be revitalized at some point, but it has been almost exactly the same for the 8+ years I've been going through there.

We used to live right there also, in that Salem Village complex. That location was fantastic.

Nice. I know the area well. I owned a house just south of there on the corner of Park and Hillside for a few years and my cousin was President of the homeowners association at Dilworth Edge for a while. Those places are definitely cheap compared to everything around them. I think you can still buy there for close to $100k.

In the complex right beside yours, 2 bed condos are on Zillow for $1500-2000 per month

It's a little taste of Midwood over here on the West End. I've only made it down there a few times since moving here in March though.

What street? I can't place where that is. It's only been the last year or so that builders have gone back to work flipping houses and homeowners having gotten back into remodeling. My area is a pretty even mix of remodeled and non-remodeled homes, but it's certainly more gentrified and less diverse than Belmont was (you can argue whether that's good or bad, IMO).

I don't know if it is technically Rozelle's Ferry or 5th Street where I'm talking about, but it is if you are going out of town and hang a left off of W Trade / Beatties Ford at the light by Johnson C Smith by the Church's Chicken. There are some nice houses mixed in there but there is some sort of garbage treatment center down off the road that stinks to high heaven on certain days.

I lived over there behind comet grill and dilworth baptist church. shit was great. They are building McMansions back there like crazy. I had a little dilworth bungalow that had the kitchen and master bath renovated so it was great. Huge backyard too which was rare for that area. dang I should have kept it and rented. Especially since south end is booming now too. jeeze.

South End is pretty awesome these days. Just looked at a big townhome over there that you could walk to almost everything and to the light rail stops. It didn't have any outdoor space though and only a one car garage, so it wasn't perfect for us, but pretty close.

In the $700 range, you might need to look into something like Marsh properties. They're not the best maintained, but there are a bunch of them in the Dilworth/Southend/Sedgefield border area and seemed pretty safe. Had an ex live there for a year, quiet for the most part and spacious for the price. I know her 2 bedroom was under $900 a couple years ago, so I imagine the 1 might still be sub 8 now. Rents have gone way up here the past couple years despite the massive apartment buildout.

walked and biked to east blvd all the time damn it you idiots are making me homesick

No love for Ed's? I'm shocked. There's a new place by the shell station on the corner across from me called Bulldog Beer & Wine that you'd probably dig. Bring your dog and chill and drink delicious beer.

Yep - They fancy. I think the next move is either into a house over off ideal somewhere before everyone flips the cottages into 5Br/3Ba monstrosities or over off Kenilworth into one of the smaller guys. Girl I know lives at one of the last houses before East and is paying like $1k-ish for a 2Br with a dope yard full of trees.

Dammit Rubbins I would have rented the shit out of this place from you.

I am hijacking. I too will be moving to Charlotte next summer for a law job despite moonz best efforts. I lived right off south this summer by Mac's but was only okay. My question is, as a young dude is it worth living uptown for the experience or just get a place in one of the burbs?

If I were young and single, I'd be in uptown or Southend within a block or two of a light rail station.

Uptown is great for the young and single.

I'm in Plaza Midwood - prob nothing much around here for your price range. My suggestion: pick a neighborhood that you like that is near sketchiness, drive right up to the edge, and rent the next to last nice house. For example belvedere at Hawthorne.
