According to Dan

it's easy to make the QB a scapegoat. I thought all-in-all tanner was a good QB, especially compared to past WFU QBs. too bad he didn't redshirt though. That was a mistake.

Mistake? Who else would have been our QB?

Tanner was by far our best option as a true freshman, pretty pathetic really.

Even more pathetic when you look at all the missed opportunities to recruit someone better.

The starting position in 2010 theoretically could have been filled by a redshirt senior who was recruited and redshirted in 2006 and players recruited between 2007-2010.

The starting position this season theoretically could have been filled by a true freshman who was recruited in 2013 or any player recruited from 2010-2012.

So that is 2006 to 2013, eight recruiting classes in which our staff failed to bring in a QB better than Tanner Price.

i was operating on the assumption that we had at least one other viable QB at the time. i guess we didn't then. who else was there at the time?

Stachitas started against Presby and Duke. He got injured against Duke and Price took over from there. The other scholarship QBs were Brendan Cross, Skylar Jones, and Patrick Thompson.

Here are the QBs Grobe brought to Wake between the 2006 and 2013 classes:

06 ** Zach MacDowall
07 *** Skylar Jones
08 *** Ted Stachitas
09 *** Brendan Cross
10 ** Patrick Thompson
10 *** Tanner Price
11 *** Kevin Sousa
12 *** Tyler Cameron
13 ** Michael Radford

Before 2006, QB recruiting used to be a strength.

We currently have the worst of both worlds with Tanner and our current receiving corps. Tanner continues not to throw to wide open receivers and our receivers continue to drop passes at seemingly record setting numbers.

Tanner is a C-USA gadget QB who would be above average in a pass heavy spread offense. That's what he's always been. Deal with it.

Kid is not a winner.

Numbers you're an amazing fan boy when it comes to your teams, something that I kind of admire. But dude you overrrate every player you follow.

Tanner is a system gadget QB. Which makes him a dime a dozen in today's college football.

Apparently you know nothing about football at all. You are wrong about Camp and you are wrong about Price. Tanner is an ACC level QB. He gets no help. The scheme has sucked, he runs for his life a lot and his receivers drop a lot of balls. He isn't Riley, nor is he a great QB, but he isn't terrible.

Yeah, but some of those guys on that list was listed fairly high in the recruiting rankings at QB, so either those guys were very overrated or our staff hasn't done a good job of developing QB's once they get here. My money is on the lack of development. Does anybody really know how hard the staff has tried to develop a guy like Sousa? I get the impression it's almost like the staff said, "well he not a good thrower so let's just give up on him as a QB." Have they coaches worked as much as possible with him, has he been sent to one of the many QB camps in the offseason?

You must fail to see all the balls he throws in the dirt to wide open receivers. He's not terrible by any means, but he misses as many throws as he gets dropped.

Tanner is good in the pocket, with time. On the run, Tanner constantly fails to square up his shoulders and he throws the ball across his body (with no zip on it or skips it into the ground). With a better line and more time, he could be very good, but he has not had that here at Wake.

Who else do I overrate on Wake? I'm pretty much overly critical of everything related to Wake. Price is simply not as bad as people on here pretend he is. He's not great, but he's not bad. He's clearly a starting ACC quarterback.

He is okay in the pocket but not great. His mechanics are still bad and I just can't think of many times I've seen him throw a ball down field and thought "that was a pretty pass." I agree that Tanner was an average qb talent playing on some very bad teams with very bad coaches.

This is most exactly what happens every single game. Our team makes zero adjustments at halftime and other teams that are more well coached makes game changing adjustments and reverse momentum. I would imagine we almost lead college football with minus score differential in the third quarters of games over the Jim Grobe years.

Good coaching staffs don't wait until halftime to make adjustments. Within 5 or 6 plays, the initial game plan of your opponent should be fairly clear.

Let's agree that Tanner is inconsistent. The list of QBs that PH drew up tells the story. There is no one ready to step in for the long haul. The little I've seen of Tyler Cameron, he was running for his life. The staff seems to have given up on Sousa and Radford is really an unknown. Grobe shoud go to Hatch and beg for help from the JUCO ranks.

Once again he's serviceable in a pass happy spread offense. If you ask him to do anything else (option, line up in the I, literally anything else) he's unable to succeed. And realistically where would Tanner be if he wasn't at Wake? You fanboys always talk about how Harbaugh offered him a scholarship, do you think he would be starting at Stanford? Because I sure as hell don't. He'd probably of transferred back to be playing at Rice or UTEP or somewhere comparable.

And I'm not sure what I said about Camp. He's probably the best receiver that's ever played at Wake. Kid is tough as nails and has a future as an NFL slot receiver, if he can stay healthy. Its just a shame that he's had to become our entire offense because our current QB is only comfortable throwing to one receiver. And yes the OL is below average, but generally in that instance you adjust your scheme to hide this weakness. Something you can't do with Tanner at QB, unless of course you want to throw a quick slant or screen every play. Which is where we're at now. And that's going so well.
