Ethan Reeve????

I've always liked Reeve too. IIRC some of the stink came about by way of RULZ. He was making a big deal out of a few guys choosing to do their offseason S&C with Camp's brother instead of following the prescribed routine.

If it came from RULZ, it's worth about as much as a pile of chicken crap.

I've been really impressed with the conditioning of some of our skill position guys (remember how well Chris Givens developed here? Great numbers at the Combine, too). But something is up when our offensive linemen have been getting whipped for 5 years straight.

I'll defer to others around here when it comes to football weightlifting, but it seems like a common refrain is that simply putting up big bench press numbers or squat numbers does not equate to better production as an offensive lineman.

Last year at the end of the season, do you remember that "Players' Only" Meeting that took place? It sparked a lot of Grobe resignation talk at the time, but it turned out it was just about offseason S&C.

Imabehere (Camp's brother?) was on the boards at the time pinning a lot of the disappointment of that season on our S&C program.

So, y'know, consider the source with all this stuff, but the results on the field certainly haven't been pleasant w/r/t our lines. Lots of injuries and very little progress on both sides of the ball.

We need Duke's S&C coach or his clone. Those guys were in great shape and won a lot of their games in the second half.

My brother just wrote a research paper on different S&C systems and their success on the field vs at the combine.

Doesn't the S&C coach support all athletes? I may be well out of touch with this, but "back in my day" (mid-late 80s) this guy worked with all the athletic teams. If so, Grobe's leaving shouldn't have a direct effect on him. That's not to say the new guy won't have someone they insist have the job.

Looks like Reeves came with Grobe from Ohio, but is in charge of all strength and conditioning, except for men's basketball.

So we have some post, that you don't recall exactly what it said, that MAY have been from the brother of a guy on the team, as the source for Ethan Reeve being at fault for Losing games?

1. I've never heard any team in the history of football pin losses on the strength and conditioning program. That's just outrageous.

2. And I think there is a lot more evidence of players Maximizing performance, and playing better than their skillset was thought to be at Wake Forest than the opposite. Sure, there were guys that did their own stuff to add on. There hasn't been a S&C program that I've been around that guys didn't do their own stuff on the side. But as far as Core Strength, Speed, Balance, I'd work with Ethan Reeve anytime.

Given Camp's hamstring issues in the past, I think he wanted a different S&C program to see if that made a difference.

FWIW, WF players have tested well at the combine in recent years.

FWIW? It's not worth much. You're only talking about our absolute best players and athletes who were getting NFL looks. Perhaps a better S&C program would have put more players on the NFL radar.

The results speak for themselves. Aside from a few players like Camp and Nikita, our players didn't look physically prepared to compete against the competition. We had RBs who couldn't break tackles, LBs who couldn't make tackles, big WRs and skilled DBs who had trouble playing physical. And most damning, our players wore down as the season went along.

I've known Coach Reeve for seven years and worked in the weight room for four years when I was in undergrad. I could write an essay on the man, his program and approach, and what it was like watching class after class go through. We would be lucky to retain him and his staff, but I understand the reality of the situation. He, like Jim Grobe, is a class act who if not retained all wake fans should wish nothing but the best given his contributions to Wake. He knows his stuff and it's easy to scapegoat when things aren't going well but I've seen the results and a lot goes into molding a successful athlete.

Hate to beat a dead horse, but I'm just glad the days are gone when we're puking our guts out on the field against App State.

These are exclusively 1-3 star recruits.

Duke and Wake have had similarly ranked recruiting classes over the past decade, but Wake has had 21 players drafted and Duke has had 0. 21 to 0. I think that is because Wake has had much better player development over that time span, which I think looks favorably on our S&C program. You could argue that Wake coaches were better at finding diamonds in the rough, but my impression is that it has been because of superior player development and S&C.

Aaron Curry didn't look ready to Play? Undersized RBs Barclay didn't break any tackles? I added 4 yards of strength to my average from Junior to Senior year. Swank hit 4 50 yarders in a game? Kenny Moore didn't hold up doing EVERYTHING on offense for us? John Abbatte looked like Thor and played like him. Olineman drafted out of Wake Forest, that have competed and won jobs in the NFL.

I think Some players may have not bought in and turned around and blamed others. Typical. Poor recruiting. and possibly poor playcalling lead to the last 5 years. Not Ethan Reeve.

SDeacz, you're talking about players who played at Wake quite awhile ago and weren't part of the 5 year slide that may find Reeve without a job.

Rafi, 21 to 0 is a good stat for Wake. Pretty interesting that we only outnumber Duke in players in the NFL 9 to 6.
