Rumor: Notre Dame Dropping 2014 Wake Forest football game

So, to summarize, the following programs have begged out of playing (or asked to delay the game) WF over the past a couple of years:

Vandy
ND
AF
NIU
Rice
Tulane

Am I missing anyone? Pretty amazing when considering that football teams only play 4 OOC games a year.

Apparently, playing WF is perceived as a lose/lose situation.

ECU?

I'm fine with playing Vandy every year, but as an end-of-season rivalry game it sucks - we should end the year playing Duke, State, or UNC every year

Agreed. If UNC and DUke are playing at the end of the year then we need to play state.

Pilch -

Wow. Utah State is very good, but nobody knows it

Two major reasons why I hope this isn't true....plus this type game does zilch for recruiting.

Bump for Coach Clawson's hiring. So our 2014 opponents are
Home: Army, BC, Clemson, Syracuse, Virginia Tech, FCS (heard it might be Western Carolina)
Away: Duke, FSU, Louisville, NC State, ULM, Utah State

Should be a nice early test.

No disrespect to any team, but I just don't think there is anyway we should be playing away at ULM and Utah State in the same season.

Another interesting thing is that would make the 4th time I think we've played Va. Tech at home and only played there once.

Utah State is going to beat the shit out of us.

And we're playing AT Utah State? Good god. If you're going to do a home and home (even at this late juncture) you need to get the home game when you're already going to Louisiana. There's no reason we should ever play two road non-con games in the same year unless one of them is at Notre Dame.

I believe that it came down to ULM and Utah State last year when we needed a late slot to fill, so I guess we just called them up first this year.

Maybe the assumption was that next year was going to be tough regardless and none of those OOC games are going to be packing them in at BB&T. Why not suck it up and play to road games next year and set up a more favorable schedule for the following season. Or they were banking on this year being the year and pushing the road trips to next season.

Not doing any favors for Clawson with that schedule. 6 road games. 8 bowl teams. Of the 11 FBS teams scheduled, only 2 had a losing record in 2013 (Army and State). As things stand today, WF would be favored in only two games next year (Army and Western Carolina). I guess it does not really matter whether WF goes 2-10, 3-9 or 4-8, but I would not have scheduled at Utah State to fill out the OOC slate. Would have scheduled a winnable home game.

That's not a bad idea. Wake v. ULM should be an awful, awful game as it stands and doesn't really matter where it is.

Utah State will undoubtedly be favored over us and will likely beat us. So we have road trips to Tallahassee, Utah, Louisiana, and Kentucky next year. That's pretty wild.

Yeah I'd about rather see another FCS game than going to play Utah State away.

Quick search of Utah State's depth chart shows they're losing abunch of starters next year, so you never know I guess.

Interesting tidbits too: this will be the first game Wake football has ever played in Kentucky or Utah.
