Wake - Richmond Game Thread

Huh? 68 teams get into the NCAAs. 32 teams get into the NIT. That's 100 teams. 61 is not a bubble team, that's solidly in the NIT.

Except for the fact that of those 100 teams 35 or so are automatic qualifiers that would not otherwise make either tournament. that puts 61 pretty squarely on the bubble.

It would be a monumental turnaround to make the NCAA tournament from where we were last year.

This is true, it is also very unlikely to happen. Even if we win out the non-conference we would likely need to go 10-8 or better in conference (with at least 1 win the ACC tourney) to make it.

If we cut our rotation to 7-8 guys and rely heavily on the CMM-Coron-Travis-Cav-Devin lineup then it might be possible, but still very unlikely.

One thing I noticed late in the game was that CMM was visibly upset with Travis after Travis turned the ball over but he didn't say anything. If Codi can take control of this team and get Travis to buy in and Devin to keep his cool they could make some noise. They won't make the tourney but they could come pretty close to our 07'-08' team.

If they do that and we get a new coach it would be the first time in 4 years there would be reason to be excited about Wake Basketball.

Why would pizza dunk apple under that scenario?

Lifetime contract

agreed

Seriously 50 screamin demons at a game and most of them in the band. If we get a new coach are any of the current students going to start caring? Do the students at watch most of the games on TV at least? I can say I certainly didn't make it to too many games while I was at wake, but watched them all.

Pizza won't. My hope is that Pizza won't have a choice.

the 07' - 08' team was 16-8 (6-5) at one point with wins over Duke and Miami (both tournament teams that year).

After the home game against FSU on the 15th we close @Maryland, @UNC, Clemson, BC, Duke, @Miami. A similar comparison to 07'-08' would be if we were 17-8 (6-6) with a couple of good home wins heading into that stretch and then going 1-6 down the stretch and winding up at 18-14 (7-11). Which given our schedule should really not be enough to keep [Redacted] around.

There will be an immediate jump but it will take the new coach a few seasons to build it back up to where it was pre-[Redacted]. And no, most students do not watch the games on "TV". Why would they? 70% of them hadn't heard of Wake Forest until they started applying to college. The current freshman were in 4th grade when Chris Paul was here.

Why didn't you go to many of the games?

We start the ACC schedule against UNC, UVA, and Pitt. Go 2-1 in those games, and I'll be impressed.

Two of those are on the road, something this roster has no experience with thanks to this cream puff schedule. We're starting the ACC 0-3

Yeah, exactly my point. There's no doubt we are starting 0-3. However, if this team could be a NCAAT bubble team like some are insinuating, a 2-1 start is certainly a reasonable expectation.

This team is nowhere near a NCAAT bubble team.

Right. I don't know what the history shows but I'd guess not many teams make the kind of turnaround we hope we can. Going from 6-12 to 10-8 or better is a huge gap.
