LOBO IS GONE

Lobo took a lot of WFU money for many years and was terrible at what he did. Not just bad. TERRIBLE. He severely hurt the program and the perception of Wake (it's sad that the public perceives schools through sports but they do). Yes, much of that is Grobe's fault for not canning him 5 years ago, but a good part of it is also Lobo's for staying on when he was lethally incompetent.

Hurt it so bad, we couldn't even get a coach like Clawson to come here.

I'd disagree about hurting the program. He has had 4 NFL lineman drafted (Looney, Justice, Clabo, Vallos), unless I am missing someone, who have all been on the 53 man roster. Teams carry 8 lineman making Lobo a coach of 4 of the top 256 lineman in the world. Not too shabby for "LOWF". Obviously his techniques, etc. were legit.

I think the biggest problem with our last 5ish years was recruiting, and that goes on all the coaches. Didn't recruit good enough players/leaders, didn't win ball games.

"Hurting the program". Billboards, Cussing out coaches (AFTER THE FACT), "Go to Hell" comments don't hurt the program? I don't think he's the best OC in the world. But he certainly proved he was competent at times, and was part of the winningest staff in Wake Forest history. He was let go because the staff as a whole didn't win enough ballgames. I sure wanted something to change. I think wake is better than 5-7. BUT, I don't think kicking a guy when he's down is ok either. But if that makes you internet tough guys feel better about yourself, carry on.

GROW A SACK Zqglass? Lobo was very available publically. You guys can be straight out nasty on a message board. But would shudder at the thought of saying anything to him to his face in person.

[Quote/] Grobe had a .647 winning pct w/ 4 NFL defensive players and a .407 winning pct without them.[/QUOTE]

FIFY. But fair stat. And he was canned for it. Was wellman slow on the trigger? Absolutely. BUT, I think erring on the side of loyalty to coaches will help our chances of landing better ones in the future.

Fuck him, and fuck you SD. Lobo got paid 6 figures by Wake Forest for 13 years. He isn't worried about feeding his family today.

F Me for what? having an opinion, and opining on a message board? Classy Gentlemen, you are.

Yes, F You, for your comments. If I wanted a lecture on hurting other people's feelings, I'd call my mother. This is a message board, it's where people go to vent.

While I have been calling for a new OC (and basketball coach) for a long time, you need to move on and let it go. Directing anonymous curses towards a decent man, like an immature 5th grader trying to sound tough, says more about the poster than Lobo, makes our fanbase look no different than others, and doesn't exactly welcome the new coaching staff/families.

Well said.

I don't think your comments hurt anyone's feelings. I think it misrepresents you as an Asshole, and is a bad example of a Wake Fan.

I can promise you, sweetie- what I say on this board, I'd say right to anyone's face. I realize you don't know me but there are quite a few here who do and can attest to that. Fuck Lobo- he is not a Wake alumnus, he's not a student, he's not a life-long fan. He was an employee. That's it. Nothing more. No one here owes him anything beyond his last paycheck which, your list of linemen aside, he statistically did little to earn. Check the NCAA stats for Wake's offensive output under Lobotzke.

I get the idea of whipping a dead horse and tossing dirt on the grave. If you don't like what's being said on the thread, don't open it.

Thanks for reminding me of what a bad fan I am. I guess I should be thankful that Lobo gave his successor 13 years worth of tape on what not to do in his position.

I'd disagree that Lobo was a competent OC. He is a great guy and a pretty good OL coach but he was completely in over his head as OC. And on top of that OL play suffered as his OC duties took more of his time.

No, mean comments and billboards do not hurt the program. And if they do it's the AD's fault for driving the fanbase to this point. Do you know what hurts the program? Driving men's hoops into the ground by making a terrible hire that everyone knew was horrible up front. It's cowardly and completely lacking in self-responsibility for the athletic department then to try to paint the resulting struggles on a disgruntled fanbase. The reactions here are mild compared to what you'd get at other BCS schools and I'm sick of the attitude that Wake fans should just sit there and take it and be thankful for what we have. Things like the billboard are last grasp attempts by a fanbase that cares about its school and teams. The more dangerous mindset is complacency and being content to watch your programs descend into complete irrelevance. No one should have to apologize for attempting to empower the alumni base when teams are being run into the ground.

I don't know Lobo personally and I don't wish bad things upon him but it was time to cut ties years ago and Wake Forest should be better on the field for him no longer being employed.

And for every one recruit we've lost because fans are mean or they bought a billboard, we've lost 5 because of who is coaching our basketball team.

I 100% agree with this, but still think it is classless to get onto a message board and hurl personal attacks at the guy.

how do we know lobo is gone? thought he went in for an interview?

Maybe he wants to stay on and be Clawson's Equipment Manager.

I'd be OK with that if he could finally sway RW to give the deacon head logo on the helmet a try. It looked pretty good in the photos from this past summer.

Wasn't there a rule when this board was started not to be a douche? This thread is just oozing douche. Lobo isn't the OC any more and pretty much all of us are happy about it. Beyond that, let it the fuck go and don't act like a fucking mutant.
