Same thing happens in China. Should people refuse to ever set foot there? Or should countries be open to media, press, and visitors so that the world can know what happens there and eventually hope that information reaches the brainwashed masses in NK?

You don't think a ton of people live and die in horrific conditions in China against their will?

I don't think they are the same situation, but they are definitely not innocent of some of the human rights abuses that NK commits

No, but North Korea is exponentially worse. A trip to China does not have the same level of potential risk to one being held captive against their will by a nutcase that just fed his uncle to a pack of dogs.
 
I, for one, vouch for sending Bz as a replacement for Scott. His mastery of the X's and O's should give them a great sense of guidance in such a dangerous area. Besides, Rodman needs a coach for his exhibition team, right?

Oh I definitely agree. I interpreted yours and simo's point to be that it's a a moral issue to travel to NK. If a traveler is willing to take the risk, then I have no problem with them traveling there. Opening a country to media and tourism has generally been a good thing for citizens of autocratic regimes. The more involved a country is in the world economy, the more pressure you can exert on them to treat their citizens fairly.

Agreed, just as long as people keep in mind the potential risks that they are taking in visiting a country like North Korea. The Korean War was not ended in a peace treaty, but an armistice. Our diplomatic influence in bailing out people that may be held captive by this tyrannical regime can be often times much more restrained compared to dealing with just about any other country in the world.

Again, I volunteer Bz as a more than capable replacement for Antwan.

I'm sure the majority of people that go to Korea, in no way, have interaction with Kim Jung in anyway/shape/form....but that's not what these 2 idiots are doing. They are going to play basketball FOR an absolute maniac. With the exception of 'Saving My children's lives", there is absolutely no reason, whatsoever, that I would go at the request of this maniac. This dude destroys family members, ex girlfriends, etc for what? To show that he can whip his STICK out whenever possible.

This has nothing to do with being a 'tourist'. And this has nothing to do with exposing media to them, there are a million eyes already on every move they make. This is publicity bullshit, lead by one of the biggest assholes/jokes to grace professional sports.
 
I don't go to Thailand, and have absolutey not interest in going to Thailand...at all. If someone offered me free tickets, I likely wouldn't go. However, Tons of people go there willingly because they love to travel and see parts of the world that are vastly different than their own.
