BB Staff: Woodberry, Ballard, & Bauman (DOBO) join from Tulsa; ChillIN

Wellman's bb hires have been risks ever since Skip's death. At least this one has a tremendous upside.

Wellman getting rid of Dave Odom was the actual start of everything back in 2000 as he got rid of a 2 ACC title winning coach who had quite a team coming back with several great recruits. Same with George Greer in baseball. It is about time RW reestablishes some faith in his Deacon faithful.

Good points, Va. I thought about that last night. I finally watched the entire Big East 30 for 30. Manning stands out in the ACC much like John Thompson did in the Big East at a somewhat similar institution.

We actually get to the keep those ACC Titles. Just out of curiosity, when do you add Grobe and his ACC Title to your repertoire?

Steve Woodberry's Kansas jersey was the first one I owned. I loved that guy as a player.

I have no idea how he'll do with recruiting, but he's got an ass ton of experience playing overseas. If nothing else, this should demonstrate Manning's emphasis on defense-first basketball.

I like Woodberry's experience. Slight NBA time and 6 years of pro ball. Then 6 years coaching a Missouri State and 2 years at Tulsa with Manning. So he has plenty of basketball behind him.

The young, hungry black guys vs. other teams' OWGs. Pumped, let's do this.

Blek. I really hope our 95% white guy board constantly talking about how awesome it is to have a BLACK coach, is something that doesn't becomes a thing. Its an uncomfortable thing to read, and can be construed as a somewhat unintentionally racist.

Judge the coaches on their abilities and background. Not their skin color.

Oh and good for Randolph. Hopefully this means that he does have some very solid local recruiting connections.

Or he could just retire. #Wellmanout #Chillin

Strange reaction to #facts.

I think it's pretty cool. Especially for a school like WASP U.

Lol if you thought that post was in any way serious. Chill, Brasky (no pun intended).

Chill's Wikipedia page could use some improvement. Although I concede it's tough to convey in words what an ice cold assassin he was.

Much like Manning, it's tough to judge this hire right now. Like a lot of people, I hope this hire was based on ability and/or potential, but given Wellman's history, can we be sure of that? Among other things, a home-run hire would have reassured the fan base that these decisions would be solely the new coach's decision, as Wellman likely wouldn't have been able to strong arm Shaka Smart or Greg Marshall. Do we know enough about Coach Manning to be sure that he would have told RW to eat shit if he tried to force an assistant on him? I certainly hope so, which is why I'm optimistic. Particularly because, if Childress pans out as a coach, he could be the guy to make Wake an elite program and then stick around, considering that he's an alumnus.
