The group I play League of Legends with tried out HotS and couldn't really get into it, felt too unresponsive. Then again, we're kind of invested in LoL so *shrug*
I prefer it to LoL, I think. Try to give my reasons here:
#1 - The combat and movement "feels" better. This is something that Blizzard excels at, and it's excellent again. Especially when playing a melee hero, you know exactly how you will path and everything is "smooth". The combat isn't as fast as LoL / DoTA, but it feels more solid and predictable to me.
#2 - I like the shared XP, allows for more combinations of tactics. You aren't behind in the end game if you don't sit and farm creeps. Leads to more action in the early game.
#3 - I like the talents as opposed to items, and I like "objectives" as well. Just feels a very fluid way to gain power, and you don't have to play the same hero the same way every game (or depend on getting certain items, you will always have the talents available to pick).
#4 - The heroes are just flat out cooler/more fun. Hearing Arthas growl "FROSTMOURNE HUNGERS" >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> anything a LoL or DoTA hero has ever done. Using the iconic characters they've spent a generation and a half making just helps Blizzard a ton here.
I think the Heroes (and mounts/skins omg) are still way overpriced right now, and the community is definitely going to downhill once it leaves narrow invite only alpha stage (right now the community is really good, as opposed to the vile cesspools of humanity that are the DoTA and "ESPECIALLY" the LoL communities). But overall, this game is going to be a huge hit. It's just
