Pit Pet Thread

We are having a tough time getting Ralph's seizure meds right and Drake's insulin too, it's bad when the vet has your phone number memorized

We use an Easy Walk with Lucy and it was miraculous the change from waking her with just a leash and collar. Have been using it for the past 3.5 years.

Booger is having a couple bad days. The swelling in his abdomen is up, and his appetite is down. Vet said to give it a few more days until we might need to drain the fluid which is risky. He's been really great since the diagnosis. Hoping he bounces back again.

good vibes to booger!!

Just felt like posting our new dog, Rocket. 5.5-6 lbs, 6-7 months old, pretty much fully grown. Not sure exactly what breed she is, but she looks like maybe a havanese-yorkie mix. Would explain the size too. She's become friends quickly with our 9 months shichon Zeppi, which is nice since now they distract each other! She's also being somewhat difficult to house train, but admittedly we only adopted her a week and a half ago.

Things not getting better with Boog. Taking him to the vet this morning. Hopefully they can just drain some of the fluid in his abdomen and help him to feel more comfortable in the next however many weeks/months he has. I'm steeling myself up to potentially make some hard decisions today though. This really sucks.

Mrs. DF07 just picked Boog up from the vet. They drained a good bit of fluid, and he did eat a little there. They gave us some nausea meds because the pressure from the fluids can make them nauseous which lowers appetite. Sounded like his energy level was up a little when she picked him up, so maybe he has a good upswing coming. Vet said that we're looking at pretty much a day-to-day evaluation at this point. I'm terrified of the finality that comes with what I know is the best decision for him right around the corner. I don't want to prolong his suffering because of my attachment, but I would hate to make a decision to put him down when good days could be around the corner. Any advice would be appreciated for anyone who has been through this before. I've been fortunate, I guess, that all of our family pets just died without a decision to be made about euthanasia.

Glad to hear this vet trip helped a bit, and I'm so sorry that you guys are dealing with this; I know the feeling. The ever-present 'but tomorrow could be a good day' is really hard. I think you have a good handle on being aware of your attachment vs. his suffering, and you'll know better than anyone when it's time because of that.
Our thoughts are with you guys, and extra love to Jackson for Booger tonight.

Oh man, hugs to Booger.

Our last family dog to pass away had been decreasing in energy, and then one morning he got to the top of the stairs and just lay down because he didn't have the energy to go down them. I don't really have any advice, other than I think you'll know when it's time.

And now I'm crying at work.

It was 20 degrees this morning and my pup was shivering a bit on our walk. (We ran for a bit to get the body temp up, that seemed to work.) So what I'm saying is, I think I need to get a doggie sweater. Luckily I live in the city, and city people seem to be really into dog coats, so we'll fit right in.

Clearly your dog didn't play football.

If you haven't seen it yet, DVR "Dogs of War" on A&E. You'll thank me later. It follows Paws and Stripes, and both episodes so far this season have been phenomenal.

I DVR'd this on your rec. Loved it. Thanks!

Awesome. It's so heartwarming to watch the transformation of the vets. I feel so bad for the dogs that dont get picked, but I like their statement that those dogs do get adopted out to non-ptsd homes.

we have a lot of outdoor cats in our neighborhood that roam around the alleys/parks, some more infamous than others, and someone posted this to our neighborhood facebook page as a nice change of pace from posts about stolen packages, parking problems, random arguments about gentrification, and robberies

Thank you, Alex the cat for hanging out with my nephew from time to time in the park! He loves you. Ginger haired creatures unite. Hope this makes the neighborhood smile on this gloomy Wednesday!
