I like Seinfeld, Friends, Home Improvement, King Of Queens, Everybody Loves Raymond, etc...

Never watched Frasier....and I voted for Family Matters....tried to watch a few episodes late night recently and it was just cheesy as hell

The sitcoms on right now that I think are truly good (ie: in the future I will watch re-runs of them):
Modern Family
Parks and Rec
30 Rock

Modern Family started in 2010, and Parks and Rec wasn't any good until 2010. So that adds 30 Rock.

Community is good, but it's inconsistent and probably won't be long lasting. Big Bang Theory is also inconsistent but it's at least a candidate for greatness.

And, as it turns out, Will & Grace premiered in 1998 so that makes it '90s too.

The '00s also produced more long-running shows that were just utter horseshit than the '90s did: According to Jim, George Lopez Show, House of Payne, and Hope & Faith come to mind.

Well the 00s produced more sitcoms because they the cable sitcom exploded. Still the depth in network sitcoms is pretty good. Even some of the cancelled before their time sitcoms were very good. Hell, Family Guy and Futurama came back from a long hiatus because of their staying power.

I know people hate on the CBS sitcoms, but HIMYM and Big Bang had a strong start in the 00s. The Office brought the mockumentary format into sitcoms. Scrubs had some strong early seasons. Never watched it but people swear by Arrested Development. Even networks shows that weren't as popular like Bernie Mac and Everybody Hates Chris were damn funny shows that have staying power.

I don't really consider cartoons to be sitcoms. There's no real logic to it, it just doesn't make sense to me.

Bernie Mac was at best mediocre. Everybody Hates Chris is alright, but not really all that funny to me. I almost put How I Met Your Mother on my shit list, but I know a lot of people seem to actually like it.

Scrubs and The Office were definitely innovative shows, but not great shows imho. I watched them when they were new, but I am generally not going to watch reruns of them.

Arrested Development is my number two sitcom of all time (behind Frasier). I'd definitely recommend that you give it a shot.

At some point, I'm going to take a month and just catch up on shows I've missed over the years.

It's Married With Children and it's not close. That show is absolute shit.

Yes, Dear is the correct answer to this question.

Everybody Loves Raymond isn't that good, but it's pretty much The Wire compared to According to Jim or Mad About You

Perfect Strangers would have my vote, easily. Absent that, I'll go for whatever has Paul Reiser.

This post is just awful. Charles In Charge was a fantastic show, and Perfect Strangers was also pretty good. Facts of Life and Webster were both watchable.

The correct answer to this poll is Designing Women. My mom used to watch that crap and it was horrendous. Everybody Loves Raymond is a close second, and Roseanne also sucked. Who cares about a family of fat bastards?

I'm guessing you were a kid when those shows came out and are judging them by kid standards. No one anyone with moderately adult sensibilities (20+ when watching them) would find them anything less than dreck.

Correct, but who else watches sitcoms but kids/teens and expects them to be worthwhile? I guess the ratings bear it out, but do adults regularly watch sitcoms in this day and age? I don't think I've regularly watched a sitcom since Seinfeld went off the air. I've watched a few episodes of Big Bang, Scrubs, the Office, and 2.5 Men over the years when absolutely nothing else was on, but its not like I would make a point to watch or DVR them. I don't know what According to Jim is, but it certainly sounds like it sucks from this thread.

But, I think I could watch Charles In Charge now and still enjoy it, or at least tolerate it if my kid was watching it. Buddy Lembeck was the man, and I doubt Nicole Eggert ever goes out of style. I couldn't say the same for Roseanne.

it's kind of hard to look back on some of these shows objectively, though. shows of the late 80s and 90s were a lot more whitebread than today or the 70s.

I just borrowed Season 1 of Arrested Development from a friend last night. Looking forward to watching it.

While I think of them first as cartoons, I think shows like The Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama, etc. can certainly count as sitcoms.

I'm seriously disappointed that there isn't more Friends hate going on in this thread.

The only funny characters on Friends were Joey and Chandler. Per usual, the girls were unfunny/annoying. That said, not surprised it lasted so long. Same with Sex and the City.

As a member of Gen Y, I can firmly say that I've never found Cheers funny. Never laughed once. MASH is also kind of boring.

Having "According to Jim" on this poll made it a very easy decision in my mind. Take that out and this becomes a bit more difficult.
