Snow

So...what can we realistically expect tomorrow? The americanwx forum peeps are either all or nothing with their predictions, and Fischel says the triangle only gets 1-3", whereas Allan Huffman says 4-8". Wtf I don't know what to think, help.

I am convinced reading this thread yearly (and every snowstorm) that people have no grasp on what goes into making the decision to close or delay schools.

So is there still black ice potential for tomorrow morning? Are buses not going to be able to get out early tomorrow AM? Are the country roads dog shit right now? Is it going to be too cold tomorrow morning for kids waiting at bus stops? Are schools not equipped or prepped to handle the weather?

I don't really have a horse in the race, but it seems bananas to me that there is a need to delay based on the current conditions. Do you think the delay is appropriate?

Today's cancellation marks the 5th day that needs to be made up for WSFCS. At this point, all of the make up days are at the end of the year. Unless some days are forgiven like they were last year, then the last day of school will be June 12. Kinda funny since graduation is June 6.

Phdeac levels of armchair quarterbacking!

This should not have been a missed day. Conditions were only poor in the triad because of lack of planning by cities and state DMV. This mess could've been mitigated and reduced to, at worst, a delay.

Waiting on final word from drew re: tomorrow night in triangle.

I have to admit it's kinda cool to work at a place that closes for snow

Yes there is obviously concern for black ice, yes buses could have problems, yes country roads are bad, yes it's really damn cold to have kids (especially young kids) out in 20-23 degree weather.

The roads aren't wet. Are there more weather concerns this evening to cause the black ice?

It's going to be 25 degrees with no wind or precipitation at 6am tomorrow. That is nowhere near an extreme where kids would have issues with the temperature.

Given those conditions, why would buses have any more issues than normal?

I have no idea about the country roads or how big of a factor they even are. I must be missing some huge part of the equation as you implied.

Damn you do live close my youngest is a second grader at Pierce drive her there every morning

Oh, Jesus Christ.

School should only be canceled for temperature reasons when the temp gets down to like -10.

You gotta feel for all these kids without coats that don't get fed breakfast or lunch unless school is in session. Bunch of cold kids starving at home all winter.
