Danny Manning Credibility Watch

We all should have known the second he called that timeout against Iona.

some did. some knew it the day he was the rumored choice. other's did not want to believe ronnie would make such a terrible choice. 5 years later and we're still limping to the finish and losing first round games.

good luck danny. it's going to be a tough climb out of this cavern.

Do you think we will accept any post season tournaments? We could use the practice!

Hatch is all in on DMann:

http://oldgoldandblack.com/?p=44829

While Hatch does not think Wake can be consistently dominant in revenue sports, he does believe the teams can be good.
He referenced that Wake Forest has the same number of scholarships as other schools do in such sports and the talent of the 2015 basketball recruiting class, which is ranked No. 28 in the nation by 247Sports.

Hard hitting article there.
Wonder why OGB wasn't seeking out Hatch's opinions on the last coach?

He had to beat out big time competition in each case. Who did we have to beat for the sensational seven?

#28 in the nation? WOOF.

People are hyped up about that class? Seriously?

I guess I get it, just so desperate for any good news that they turn "meh"-news into "holy shit! what a class!" news.

Put it in context. After the last 4 years? Absolutely.

I have no doubt that as the team continues to improve the recruiting will too.

I mean for a coach whose had 1 year in a power conference I'd say that #28 after 4 years of utter shit is pretty solid for his first class.

God this reads like "I sportsed when I was younger, these kids looks sportsing, I dare say we can probably sports well hither and yon."

Given what he had to sell, other than immediate PT, a pretty good start IMO. Obviously he needs to build on that with future classes.

Dare to Dream Nathan. Really, this statement pretty much summarizes the current mess that is Wake Forest athletics.

Would have liked the author to provide Hatch's direct quote on that, rather than paraphrase.

That article is shit.

i'm not overly excited but am cautiously optimistic considering 1 - pretty big step up from recent history and 2 - manning gets a boost because of this first class being better (and having more promise) than i would have thought with very little time.

Duke is dominant in hoops. Their academics are not worse than Wake's. Hatch needs to move along. He has used up all of his credit in Wake sports, and many questions have been raised about other aspects of his management and strategy for Wake Forest University. We need people dedicated to winning in both academics and athletics at every level of Wake Forest administration.

As an aside, shame on Nathan Hatch for coming from Notre Dame - of all places - and selling Wake sports short by refusing to demand excellence at every level. There is just no excuse for a person in a position of leadership to have his attitude.

Yep, pretty surprised that he would openly say that to the press.

What President Hatch and perhaps some of the members of our board of trustees seem not to understand is that Wake Forest's emergence from being just another sleepy little southern liberal arts college to becoming a nationally ranked and prestigious university has been greatly assisted by our membership in the ACC and participation in intercollegiate sports at the highest levels. Without our membership in the ACC, we would still most likely be a regional liberal arts college or university, and not a leading national institution of higher learning.

Amen brother! And if Kersh, my fellow Class of '86 graduate, is really the President in Waiting, he recognizes this. :)
