Republicans for POTUS, 2016 Edition

I remember hearing that but I also remember hearing that he appointed women to somewhat gender specific positions akin to Director of Home Economic Policy and Chief Baking Officer.

You forgot chief of staff.

also campaign manager in 2008.

but yeah.

Trump's campaign song is Neil Young's "Rockin' in the Free World." It includes positive references to Jesse Jackson's 1988 campaign slogan and negatively references George H.W. Bush.

Trump's announcement speech was full of xenophobic red meat. Why would he chose a song written by a Canadian? Trump's going to have a Twitter meltdown when Neil predictably tells him to stop using his song. Tremendous contrast between Jeb's announcement (deliberately using Spanish) and Trump trashing Mexicans. Does Trump think there aren't any Latino immigrants working in his hotels and casinos?

Also awesome to see Trump explicitly go after after Jeb, Rubio, and Perry. It's inevitable that Trump will go after Fiorina at some point too. If Trump's in, what's Palin's excuse?

If the 1st debate only has 10 entrants, how do the others stay relevant or are they basically out of the race for all intensive purposes? Which of the morons make the top 10?

Donald Trump's use of "Rockin' in the Free World" was not authorized. Mr. Young is a longtime supporter of Bernie Sanders.

Market forces aren't prevalent in government?

Government gets blamed for market forces. Elected officials often don't get reelected when the economy is poor.

Government department heads often change with change in party leadership.

Please use your logic to explain congress' approval rating and party leadership' tenure.

Go.

I think you misunderstood what I said.

Enlighten me.

You make the claim that government jobs are a similar market to standard economy jobs. You proof that claim with the following statements:

1. Elected officials don't get reelected when the economy is poor.
2. Government department heads often change in party leadership.

I asked you explain those 'proofs' in light of our current congress who is operating in the exact environment you proposed the proofs would occur.

1. Government is getting the blame for pretty much everything (approval rating is hovering in the mid teens)
2. The economy has been poor for quite a while since W blew it up (not going to make this a commentary on Obama or anyone else, just stating that our economy is not humming along as well as anyone would like)

Under those circumstances you are claiming that our congressional officials should not be reelected and that we should have party leaders being replaced. That is not happening, and I would like to know why?

My hypothesis is that government jobs DO NOT operate in a similar manner as the free market. That would pretty much explain how people with an approval rating of 15% who are offering poor results are not being replaced, or at least having leadership shuffled around in order to obtain better results. That is what a true market would force. So please explain your claim in light of these realities.

I would love to see someone rip Trump depart in a debate. I doubt Trump makes the top 10, but it would be high comedy to see him fed to the wolves. I say we have two debates. One for the serious candidates, and one for the fame seekers.

1st Debate (actual candidates):
- Jeb Bush (I just vomited in my mouth a little bit)
- Marco Rubio (interesting to see how he holds his own in the limelight)
- Scott Walker (meh)
- Rand Paul (VERY intrigued...hope he really shines in the debates)
- Chris Christie (donut eating and campaign killing contest post debate, you broke my heart Christie)
- John Kasich (know the least about him, but he seems like a serious candidate)
- John Huntsman (Baby come back! You can blame it all on me, I was wrong, and I just can't live without you!)
- Ted Cruz (i reluctantly think he is actually trying to win and not merely self promote)

2nd Debate (self promoters):
- Ben Carson (like the guy, but he has to know he can't possibly win)
- Mike Huckabee (I like little girls and I cannot lie)
- Rick Perry (ooops!)
- Carly Fiorina (Hillary hasn't accomplished anything of importance in her entire career, unlike meee.....errr......oops!)
- Donald Trump (likely to attempt to fire the moderator)
- Sarah Palin (you betcha!...our favorite little idiot is back on the main stage. No questions regarding reading habits please)
- Bobby Jindal (who is this guy again? From a key republican mouthpiece to obscurity in less than 4 years)
- Rick Santorum (don't ever do a google image search on this guy)
- Arnold Swarzenegger (maybe he can get the rules changed so he can run)

Both of those debates would actually be really fun to watch.

Generally respect Mark Halprin's political opinions and he said Rand Paul was the only GOP candidate who could conceivably win the first 4 nominating contests. Think it's possible, but Rubio and Walker have the sweep potential too.

Donald Trump is a delusional lunatic with nothing to lose (outside of his tv show, and his spot on FN) and money. This is gonna be fun.

ETA: Are there restrictions on the eligibility of a first lady? Purely curiosity

Lindsey Graham thinks not.

Which speaks to my point. It is not a normal market. I agree with you. The parameters are manipulated to a point where the market ceases to place the proper pressure.

It just a matter of time before the only rock songs that republicans will be able to play at their events are from Ted nugent.

This certainly happens in the private sector as well, don't you think?

And Im not supporting Ph's point, im just interjecting random thoughts into the discussion. I think it is a silly notion that there is a correlation between running a government and running a business. There are some skillsets that cross over, but they exist in other vocations besides business so it disproves the theory.

It certainly does. I won't argue that. But the scope and size is light years away. If a corp had a 15% approval rating of its product it would feel pressure to make changes almost immediately. I think our opinions are pretty aligned on this topic.

Why do you cite approval ratings rather than voting results?
