Official OGBoards Golf Thread

My old laptop couldn't handle the GoPro videos so I ordered a new MacBook. Should get in today and I'll post tomorrow.

Playing what has become my annual round at TPC Sawgrass Stadium course tomorrow.

I put this in the Disney thread as well, but I'll be at Disney in mid-October and am planning on playing a round while there. Any recommendations between the Disney courses from those that have played them?

We're doing our annual golf trip in Pinehurst this year and I just finalized the schedule.

Saturday - CCNC (Dogwood and Cardinal)
Sunday - Pinehurst #4 and Dormie
Monday - Pinehurst #2

I'm a member at CCNC and we have a family membership at Pinehurst (that I'm surely too old to use but no one has called me out yet). I haven't played Dormie Club since just before it opened (the final three holes weren't playable yet).

Missed out on our Pinehurst tournament this year - this lineup makes me insanely jealous.

Note to self: become friends with timdunk.

Playing in the Maple Chase Club Championship this weekend. Looks like good weather for the event.

Never played in a Club Championship before, what should I expect in terms of competitiveness? I'm in the flight down from Championship due to the number of good golfers out there.

Figure it's a mixed bag between really competitive and people looking to have a good time in my flight.

Do you want to play in the Championship flight? Clubs I've played at, my current club included, will let anyone play in the Championship flight if they wish. Guys overwhelming play where the pro shop flights them, but we usually have one or two 5-6 handicappers who want to move up.

You should be expecting to be playing for 2nd place, since I am in the Non-Championship flight. #smacktalk
In general, it is pretty laid back in our flight --- a few guys will really grind, but not many. For reference, I won the Non-Championship flight last year (or maybe it was two years ago) with two rounds in the mid 70's. All the pressure and ultra-competitiveness is in the Championship flight.

Golfers like Deacsfan27 and I (high single digit handicappers) wouldn't even be competitive in the Championship flight. MCGCC probably has at least a dozen guys with ~0 or plus handicaps.

Are there many spectators for the MC club championship? Considering watching some of the play.

I guess it doesn't really matter because they will have flights in the championship division, but I'm probably slightly out of a range where I feel like I would be competitive there. I've been as low as a 3, but have been closer to a 10 recently with less rounds/time to play in general.

Lol LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!!

I would be very pleased breaking 80 where everything counts. Breaking 85 is a more realistic goal for me this year, just
haven't played the amount of rounds that I normally do in the summer.

Really just looking to drink some beer, have a good time with people and if it gets close on Sunday then I'll attempt my best to buckle down and win something.

Several years ago a buddy and I were in the finals of the 2 man match play championship at my old club in my old city. It was a net event and pretty laid back. We knew the guys we were playing pretty well; one of them was really cool and the other guy was all right, though probably took himself a little too serious (was a big VT alum/fan - probably part of the issue). He was probably a 8 handicap or so, with the other 3 of us being between 3 to 5. Anyway, about halfway though the round, his wife, daughter, and daughter's fiancé show up to watch the match, which meant we went from a gallery of 0 to 3. I can't remember the exact details, but do remember that the VT guy had to get up and down from a greenside, grass bunker on 18 to extend the match. You could tell he was nervous and he ended up completely chunking the shot about 2 feet and well short of the green. The next thing you know he lets out a chain of expletives and tomahawks his wedge straight into the turf. The horrified look on his wife and daughter's face is something I will never forget as long as I live. I had to go toward the back of the green and turn my back to all of them for about 2 minutes, as I was laughing so hard. I may have gotten some shop credit or whatever for winning the championship that year, but seeing that dude melt down in front of his wife/daughter was priceless.

Played Dormie in the summer of '13 and it was outstanding. Might be tough playing 36 2 days in a row but I really enjoyed walking w/ a caddie there.

Few of us played Dormie earlier this year and had a great time. We played the weekend after prices dropped from $215 to $95. Can't beat that.

Got out to Maple Chase yesterday with Doofus after work. It's in solid shape...greens are running true and it was about as good a shape as I've ever seen it. Ran into LK on the range afterwards.

Managed to somehow shoot a 36 with two birdies and two bogies after shooting 85 earlier in the day at Old Town playing with my dad.
