Triad restaurant comings, goings and recs

Ronni's. Superb wings and flavors. Classic pizza with excellent execution. Lame atmosphere excluding the wild buffalo hunting scenes in the middle room.

Ted's (yadkinville rd). Excellent hot wings. Cold beer. Awesome vibes.

Waldo's ('Do's). Good flavors, but the cooking is wildly inconsistent. Burnt to a crisp one night, and cooked to perfection the next. Good vibes. Unfortunately the new ownership ditched the jukebox. They kept the NASCAR stuff at least.

They each have their place. I originally had them ranked, but decided that they each represent something unique and fill a specific need in the Winston wing marketplace.

Went to CCBF Saturday night. Not impressed with the food. Brisket was way over cooked. Cool place & awesome atmosphere. Better place to catch a game than Buffalo Wild Wings or East Coast.

New ownership has proven to be a success for Do's thus far. Past few times I've been, everything has been spot on. Important to add that despite taking away the touch tones jukebox, they added 4 TV's bigger than they've ever had, plus spruced up the menu a bit. Also, there's a lot to be said for a $4 pitcher.

I went on Friday night with a party of 8. It took almost an hour to seat us though we had called ahead, and then service went downhill from there. Over an hour after ordering and we had not gotten any food, nor our drinks refreshed. They ended up comping the dinner after we sought out a manager, but even then, the food came out lukewarm. The barcade is really neat though, and the building is cool. But I won't be going back unless I hear that their service has improved.

Oh, so it's like Ham's?

Went to Ham's on Saturday, it was terrible. Got a Buffalo chicken wrap but the buffalo sauce tasted more like if you put grapes and carrots in a blender. Side of fruit may have come from a can in a 50's nuclear bunker somewhere.

Went Sat late afternoon. Building is very cool. Great place to watch games. Wings and appetizers were good. Had dinner elsewhere. Waitress told us the kitchen "hoards the appetizer plates" and wasn't sure if she could get any. Finally she got her head out of her a$$ and located said plates. Place has not been open long. Think they are still working the kinks out.
Edit: Talking about Camel City BBQ downtown

Sometimes it's difficult to socialize with Buttermaker. At a table of 10 and appetizers/drinks flowing, he had the nerve to ask the waitress for plates. PLATES!

Facepalm

I haven't been in a Ham's in years. I stopped going not so much because of the food (some things were good) but because the restaurants always seemed dirty. Even the "flagship" up on Lake Jeanette in GSO would have food on the floor in the dining room and dirty bathrooms. Got to get the basics right. Have they at least got that fixed under the new ownership?

We drove by Ham's on the way out of town yesterday. Wolf1297 was amazed that a new location existed since it had seemed to him that all of the old spots had closed in recent years.

My running group used to go to Ham's after a run. It was a rare occurrence that nothing went wrong.

My favorite of all-time was when we ordered beer, I drank mine, informed the waitress I got the wrong one, and she acknowledged it and gave the one I drank out of to someone else in our party.

They took over a great location in downtown Greensboro off Elm Street that used to house a pretty decent restaurant called Bin 443 or something. #Hamsd

I've always been mystified at how Ham's is a thing. I tried it a few times in undergrad and always came away thinking, "jesus, this is like a shitty version of Applebee's, which is already totally shitty."

Who the hell goes to Ham's to keep it in business?

Back in the late 80's and early 90's, the Ham's on Stratford Rd was pretty good. Certainly a couple of steps above Applebees, Chilis, etc. But somewhere around 1995 or so, it went downhill really quick. Tried the one at Thruway and it was awful.

Yep, it was right where Hanestown used to be, and where all of those new restaurants are now. That hams made the best bacon cheese fries around IMO. The food at the new location is night and day worse.

It was actually in the building that is now Sushi Thai.

Yep. I actually liked rock ola. It was sad when they all closed.
