Taking a Look at Duke's FB Prgram

Yes, but that game wasn't particularly important to us. Our running backs were banged up and the Maryland game (the next week) would decide the Atlantic Division champion.

Wake still would have needed the win over Maryland even if they had managed to beat VT, so there was little point in putting a lot of effort (and marginally available players because of injuries) into beating VT. Grobe and company treated VT kinda like a bye week, and rested a lot of banged up guys. I think it was a fifth string running back who got his one and only start while at Wake in that game.

The immortal Travo Woods.

Missing the point here.

People criticize recent Duke success by saying they haven't had to play Clemson and FSU.

Ph countered by saying we didn't play VaTech during our successful run.

I countered by pointing out we did play VaTech and lost yet still had best year ever.

Ergo our success trumps Duke success.

Anybody have a problem with that?

Duke played Clemson and FSU, but have largely avoided them. We played Va Tech, but largely avoided them.

Duke's success is right now. That's what matters the most.

2014 and 2015 is the first two-year period in a while in which Duke has avoided both Clemson and FSU. In the four years prior to that, they played FSU three times and Clemson once during the regular season. They lost all four game by anywhere from 30-40 points.

This. Duke can't play against the big boys. Lets have an actual discussion when they beat one of those two teams and or win the ACC. Until then who gives a flying fuck.

don't remember all the details but basically a professor said that the final exam next week would be one of 20 essay questions and gave the class the questions to study. The professor said that the essay question would be chosen by someone in the class throwing a dart at a dartboard at the beginning of the exam. The class could choose who threw the dart. Phonz volunteered to throw the dart and told everyone to study question #2. Phonz wrote his essay then spent the rest of the week practicing darts. When the time came, he nailed #2.

Duke has certainly benefitted from the best conference schedule imagineable over the past few years. Part of it is they get us every year but I don't remember the lash time they played FSU or Clemson (in the regular season) although I'm sure it's been somewhat recent

It is what it is, just like in 2006 we made hay without having to play GT or Miami in the regular season and had FSU during the down down Bowden years. You take them as they come and they have done well, plus they hired a great coach in Cutcliffe. Their admissions makes it easier on all their athletics, just as we could do, but don't. Certainly hasn't hurt their academic reputation.

They play Wake & BC this year, Wake & Syracuse in 2014, Wake & State in 2013 and got killed by FSU in the title game, Wake & Clemson [got killed].

I'm calling bullshit here. The problem isn't that Duke can recruit players that we can't; the problem is that Duke is consistently beating us for players we both want.

dook has beaten the two DFL winless teams in the Atlantic and Coastal.

Look for them to finish 3-5 in the piss poor Coastal with losses to Pitt, VT, Miami, unc and Wake! :)

That may be, but currently they're #3 in ESPN's ACC power rankings and that status is worth something. What I like about their team (hard b/c it's dook) is that they've got a tough defense and their offense is strong in both rushing and passing. I'd love for them to suck again but as I've been saying, they just don't.

Not always. There are some on Duke's team that we would not let in that Duke did. We are our own worst enemy. Plus they have classes & majors they can go to. When our athletes start flocking to something, the faculty wants to shut that one down and keep them out.

Just from what I heard from those I know very close to the program over the last 4-6 years. They continued to recruit a top flight athlete from out here in Davie who had to go junior college long after we pulled off of him.

His name was Joe Watson. He ended up going the juco route finally. Duke stayed with him till the end and he even committed to Duke while we pulled of him early knowing there was no chance we could get him in school. He did finally end up playing at Catawba College. So there is an example for you non-believers.

"Davie County wideout Joe Watson has committed to the Blue Devils".
